5.0 out of 5 stars Start Here for Super Latin Jazz, November 5, 1999
This review is from: Maferefun (Audio CD)
Every cut on this CD is super! All the musicians are great. There's a little bit of singing, but mostly large ensembles going at the Latin speed of light. Exotic and funky. Take it from this Anglo, if you are looking to get into Latin Jazz, start here.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing! The best Latin Jazz album ever recorded!, June 11, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Maferefun (Audio CD)
Latin jazz at its finest. Tony Martinez has taken this genre of music and pushed it to new horizons with Maferefun. His use of the traditional afro cuban folkloric rhythms are unbeleivable. You can hear the way that they unfold and evovle in every one of the tunes.

The musicians are the best in this genre and the sheer virtuosity of the players is only outdone by their incredible musicality and tastefull playing.

I cannot recommend this album enough. Wether you are new to this type of music or are a die hard, this cd will keep you entertained for endless amounts of listening hours.

5.0 out of 5 stars Desert island album!, July 15, 2011
This review is from: Maferefun (Audio CD)
This is the most unbelievable latin jazz album of all times, definitely near the top of my 'desert island list' if not right at the top. Unstoppable drums section, perfect synchronisation of the brass instruments, passion and soul firing up in every direction, truly mesmerizing. If you feel down, then listen to this and you will be back on track in no time. A special note about the greatest congero of all times Anga, who sadly left us far too young, but his spirit will carry on. By the way if anybody has any kind of news from this band please post it here, I have been waiting in despair for more than a decade now for the successor to Maferefun, and I am in agony!... :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars They do it again, July 21, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Maferefun (Audio CD)
They always seem to be ahead of the pack, these Cubans. As usual heavy stuff. Great concept and great musicians. Vaguely I could remember the name of Martinez since I got an audio tape from a friend and fortunately via internet (yes, Amazon.com) I could trace this cd.
