Prior to this, we entered cards manually and endured a great deal of error - this eliminates that.
Purchased these used, but work perfectly.
When I say "fast", I mean it takes less than a quarter of a second for the entire line to be entered. Huge performance increase over the old one I used that took around 2 to 3 seconds using a PS/2 port.
When you get this, you'll have to mount it somewhere. Go buy a Velcro strip at the hardware store for a few dollars, and stick one side to the swiper, and another side to the monitor or keyboard or other place you want it to be held.
It is small, compact, and does what it should.

I purchased this is 2012 through Amazon and so far it's worked brilliantly... easy to install, reads cards effortlessly. We use this on a Window 7 Dell Optiplex 390.Published 11 days ago by H20Sun&Fun
It never worked. I worked with IT people to make it work. I would not recommend it. Don't buy. I had to buy another device.Published on February 10, 2014 by Anup Kanodia
This was purchased and about a month later stopped working. They did replace it for us, but stopped working again after a couple of months.Published on January 3, 2014 by Sheila A Ryan
