Ok, on advice from my friend, I checked out this cd. Holy crap, it's wonderful. Unlike it's successor, Vertigo, it seems more well-rounded... it has some beautiful ballads, some up-tempo riffs, and one track that comes off like a monologue from a play. Vertigo is excellent as well, but it comes off kinda Radioheadish. Magazine has a more well-defined identity. It is a CD that requires many listens all the way through. Each song adds to the CD - they are all very different, but as a whole make a great compilation. "Not Today" is a great opener, "Cathdrals" is numbingly beautiful, "Body Parts" is a great unleashing of frustration, and it just doesn't get any better than "B-13." Then the last track, "Close Your Eyes" could soothe you to sleep. Great, great stuff.

Jump, Little Children's Magazine is a great CD. They are so different from many other bands because their songs do not all sound like each other. These five guys have a great classical music background, and it shines through as they bring their classical music skills into the world of rock and roll. The music ranges from beautiful (Cathedrals) to rock (My Guitar) to an almost rap-like quality (Body Parts). I found J,LC refreshingly original in concert, and the CD is worth ten times the price.

The talented musicians on this album have created a great variety of styles and poetry for any music fan to enjoy. Jay Clifford's clear voice on his slow ballads are hypnotizing as usual, especially "Cathedrals", but the beat of Evan Bivins' drums keep this album rocking and rolling even more than their previous releases. Matt Bivins' vocals and the string orchestrations on the hip-hop numbers are superb and sexy and tickle your tender spots. Just try to listen to "Body Parts" without getting weak in the knees. Some fans might want more of their early folk/Irish roots to shine through, but I think they have taken those roots and grown the most interesting music plant I've ever seen. Each song a surprise, each lyric an explosion of imagery. Each time I listen to it, another song sticks in my head which is the best reason to buy it. No "One-Hit- Wonders", this Jump, Little Children band. Their startling versatilty means, for the true music fan, if you like one song, just wait, you might like the next one even better.
