1.0 out of 5 stars Not compatible with KINDLE FIRE July 6, 2012
Verified Purchase
This app is not compatible with the Kindle Fire. I activated the app using my paid bundled print and digital subscription. Followed all the instructions as directed, but still keep getting an error message that the app is not compatible with my device.

1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't Work January 15, 2012
Verified Purchase
This app didn't work at all. It just kept giving a message about not being able to connect to the company servers. It was a complete waste of time.

1.0 out of 5 stars couldn't be any worse. I need a zero star rating option. December 23, 2012
By delta
My favourite magazine, is pretty obscure, and pocketmags are the only app to offer it.
Despite negative reviews, I took the plunge. Big mistake. They took my money ok, but the magazine subscription never appeared.
Worse still, I keep getting an error pop up telling me that pocketmags is closed.
I realize that android operating system is constantly changing, it must be a battle to keep up, but if you can't offer a functional app, then don't offer one at all.

1.0 out of 5 stars Complete garbage, how can a service even be this bad? December 29, 2012
By James
I've subscribed to the digital issue of Everyday Practical Electronics for several years, each issue being available in a plain pdf file that worked perfectly on everything. Recently I got a notification that they had switched to Pocketmags so I tried it out. What a disappointment! The online reader requires Silverlight which took some time to download and configure, only to find that the reader app hung at the loading screen every time and never loaded my magazine. Then I tried the offline reader. The only one available is currently a beta version which always makes me nervous. That installs SQL Lite (why??) and when I tried it out, my experience was no better. It pegged the CPU on my laptop at 100% the whole time it was running. Downloading was glacially slow, I gave up after 10 minutes when it was only at 2%. I finally ended up finding pdf files of my magazines on a bittorrent site which worked perfectly and took a fraction the time I spent screwing around trying to do things the legitimate way. When will content providers learn that if they want people to legally purchase the goods, they have to make it at least as convenient as hitting the torrents? While I will miss EPE, I will not be renewing my subscription this time around. I wish I could give Pocketmags zero stars because I never got it to work at all.

1.0 out of 5 stars A Scam Company. Don't subscribe May 1, 2012
For one year I subscribed to a magazine which I received monthly by mail (a paper copy). The subscription came to an end and Pocketmags contacted me by e-mail. I assumed it was the same company that I had originally subscribed to; based on the timing of the mail and the fact the magazine they offered me had the same title as the one I had been receiving. So I payed for another years subscription. Days later I received an e-mail from the original company regarding renewal of my subscription for the forthcoming year. It was at this point I realized I had been scammed.
I tried phoning them with the number from their web-site; 'number unobtainable'. I have e-mailed them; 'no reply'
Do NOT subscribe to this scam company.

1.0 out of 5 stars Useless and rude customer service November 12, 2013
OK whilst everything is going well but as soon as there is a problem the whole service falls apart. Rude and quite useless customer service giving the same advice over and over again. "Delete app and reinstall" I have a yearly subscription through this company and cannot access a magazine that I have paid for in advance. Unfortunately Pocketmags are the only company that have my niche magazine. I may have to bite the bullet, lose my money and re subscribe to pare copy. Use Pocketmags at your peril.

1.0 out of 5 stars WOULD LOVE TO WRITE IN DETAIL ABOUT POCKETMAGS BUT... January 22, 2014
they have already exhausted me just trying to get them to produce ANYTHING...

I signed up and paid them nearly a year ago to download a daily newspaper and now beginning to think they are really some arm of the government - some secret department because once you get involved with them, just trying to get what you paid for; you have no time left for anything clandestine. But I am not after the clandestine - I just want to read my daily newspaper...

I even bought a second sub in a desperate attempt to get it - but nothing...and also since my original deal with them, they have illegally moved the goal posts. First it was to be that I was only charged when I downloaded a newspaper (when back home, I buy them from the newsagents) - now they charge me whether I download them or not - which means that as I can rarely successfully do this - they are charging me for their own incompetence. Why am I still here going on about them - BECAUSE THEY HAVE A MONOPOLY OF SUPPLY OF THIS NEWSPAPER AND THEREFORE ITS THEM OR NOTHING - AND OF COURSE, IT MOSTLY NOTHING. DON'T GO NEAR THEM...!!!!
