5.0 out of 5 stars These 1-inch magnets are the best size
FIRST, let's get one thing straight: In more than a decade of hard use, I've never had a Magcraft magnet break or chip. I use them around power tools, the garage, the workbench, the basement, and for the kitchen. So when someone tells you that line, it's a lie. 2.0 out of 5 stars Cool I guess
They are very useful and very, very powerful. They go through a hand and most woods up to 2 inches easily.

My problems with these were 1, they are very difficult to separate which isn't a bad thing because it shows they're strength but I accidentally, within 10 hours of use (not even consistent usage! maybe like 1 hour of actual usage) they hit together from...

I use them around power tools, the garage, the workbench, the basement, and for the kitchen. So when someone tells you that line, it's a lie. SECOND, among all the various Magcraft magnet size, this 1x1/8 inch is perhaps the most useful because of its large area. Next up would be the 3/4x1/8 size. But so far out of the dozen or so sizes I've used over the years for various projects, this is the most handy. FINALLY, because they are so strong, if you ever get two of them together, they're painful to pry apart. When that happens, attach them to something else, and then pull them apart one-by-one, and you'll still have the hide on your fingers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Stong Magnets!!, March 15, 2010

This review is from: Magcraft NSN0604 1-Inch by 1/8-Inch Rare Earth Disc Magnets, 4-Count (Tools & Home Improvement)
Me and my dad both love magnets. I ordered these for him for Christmas and when I received them in the mail, I had to check them out. They are super strong and the look/feel of them is great. Like the other reviewers stated, try not to let them stick together, because you will suddenly be confronted with the task of getting them apart. You couldn't ask for any stronger of a magnet thats this size, but you do have to be careful. Like it says on the packaging, they are very brittle. I got two of them too close together, and they flew at each other and when they connected they shattered into very many tiny pieces, but thankfully the strength of the magnets kept the pieces in one big clump, instead of scattering them everywhere. I guess your not supposed to play with them like I was, but how can you resist? These a great magnets with excellent strength, but you just gotta be careful with them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very STRONG Magnets! Highly Recommended!, May 29, 2009

The Magcraft 1" Disc Magnets are very strong and well made. These are very high quality magnets that are perfect for science projects.

These large disk magnets can hold a lot of weight and some care should be taken when you have a bunch of them together as they are very powerful. We have taken the advice of other reviewers and have not made the mistake of letting these smash together, so have not seen the chipping problem some others have reported.

Be sure to save the packaging as it is well made and likely the best way to store these when not in use.

Highly recommended!

They are very useful and very, very powerful. They go through a hand and most woods up to 2 inches easily.

My problems with these were 1, they are very difficult to separate which isn't a bad thing because it shows they're strength but I accidentally, within 10 hours of use (not even consistent usage! maybe like 1 hour of actual usage) they hit together from 2 inches apart and broke, spreading the magnetic debris all over it, with VERY sharp edges (easily could have cut my hand had I been an idiot). The problem was it says on it if you inhale magnet debris get help immediately from a medical technician. I don't think I did but yeah I wouldn't buy them again.

Not very ideal for any use. Cool but not useful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Phenomenal!, November 5, 2010

What else to say? These are more powerful than a speeding bullet. Which is what you will think the first time you bring two of them within 6" of each other!

Seriously, these are VERY powerful magnets. They will jump together with more force than you can imagine if you are used to toy magnets. Imagine holding a thin little 2032 watch battery and someone without warning flips a switch to make the thing instantly weigh 25 pounds. Could you keep your grip?

Worse, they are fragile, so when they hit together they are likely to break, leaving you with a clump of pieces and a great story. Be careful. Do NOT let kids play with them! They are NOT good refrigerator magnets!

Worse yet, if you get any part of your body between them, you may get a painful, even bloody pinch. NOT good if you are trying some kind of therapy experiment.

Since I had a good idea of their power, mine are still OK, and I do not have missing bits of skin. But I definitely had the "lead watch battery" experience!

Nevertheless, an excellent product for my purposes, far better than expected.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Magnets, brittle, October 4, 2010

I bought these magnets to find wall studs. They did the job well. My only complaint is that they break if you accidently allow them to slam together. I taped the pieces together and they still work great.

These are probably the strongest magnets you'll ever buy. But, be careful, I had two of them separated in my fingers when they 'decided' to join together! Well, skin was between them as they literally snapped together, they ripped a piece of skin off a finger where they contacted each other. I'm not sure exactly how they did it, but they did, ouch!! Lesson learned! But they do a great job of holding anything to metal.

These magnets are as advertised...STRONG! Hard to even pull of the fridge, have to slide them to the edge at times. Great for us though as we have little kids and what is on the fridge stays there now.

Highly recommend these magnets but a word of warning. Be careful about keeping them separated with the supplied plastic spacers else it will be very difficult to separate them.

I was happy using my magnets then I left them on a table and they joined and I found that one of the magnets was split in half.
