Best magnets for fooling around with,
By A.S. (DC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Magcraft NSN0607 1/2-Inch Rare Earth Cube Magnets, 4-Count (Tools & Home Improvement)
VERY strong. The size combined with the strength of them make them very hard to take apart. You can use the edge of a table to help separate them.Magnets are brittle. Allowing them to slam together WILL result in them chipping. They are also almost too strong to have them NOT slam together... They are strong enough to pinch fingers pretty good too. Not a toy (for little kids, anyway...). Packaging is pretty neat as well. Fun magnets.

These magnets are incredibly strong. I've placed all four of them in a row & used them as a stud finder -- they are drawn to nails in drywall like fleas to a dog.If you allow these magnets to slam together, you may end up with surface cracks and/or chips on some of them.

These magnets are as amazing as everyone says. It is extremely difficult to separate two of them. Not everyone can do it. They're great for fascinating the kids. I've have them for at least a couple weeks, and my 10-year-old son was playing with them yesterday. He had one under our two-inch thick wood table and one on top, and he was moving the one on top around (really). They're great for holding thick objects on the fridge, and they're not as hard to pull of the fridge as they are to separate from each other. The force will amaze you, and we have had blood blisters from a person getting them too close and having them snap together. Mine have been played with extensively, and there's only a couple chips, so they're not that brittle.

Super strong but brittle. Tossing them at each other made them explode. That is practically a selling point, though.

I just got them in the mail a couple of hours ago and I can attest to their strength! I'm a 30 y.o. male in good physical condition and even for me is not easy to separate two of these suckers when they get together.I have a little Day-Timer month organizer that's 5"x3" and over 40 pages and just one of these magnets can hold it against my metal board without a problem! Highly recommend them to anyone. They're also very fun to work with. Just as a note, they are cubed but not 100% perfectly shaped. If you're wanting these for some highly technical and sensitive experiments these are not for you, but they're also not intended to be.

I bought these for different two reasons: 1) to meet my legitimate magnet needs, and 2) as a toy. I think these fail at #1, but are great for #2. For actual magnet needs, these are just too powerful for most applications. It's very difficult to separate the magnets from one another, they connect with their attractions VERY forcefully, and they're very brittle, breaking quite easily. For example, I experimented with one as a fridge magnet, and it made contact with the fridge so hard that it actually scratched the paint on the door and chipped the corner of the magnet--and I was being careful not to let it slam into the fridge! These did do a good job at magnetizing screwdrivers, but again, it didn't take long for them to start chipping away and breaking. As toys, however, these are great fun! I must emphasize, though, that these are **dangerous** and **NOT FOR YOUNG KIDS**, seriously, these can cause some severe pain. Even when I was trying to be careful, I hurt myself many times with these magnets. If two of these are attracted to each other and you're in their way, they can deliver a pinch you won't soon forget, often involving bruising and swelling! So have fun with these, prepare to get hurt a few times, and keep them out of little hands. Overall, if you're looking for magnets as a tool or utility device, these probably aren't best for you. If you're a teenager or college kid looking for some silly fun, these can provide some cheap entertainment.

I bought these for holding a magnetic knife rack onto a fridge, but also ordered the 1/2" x 1/16" round types which work better because I need 3/8" to come flush with the housing. We have not had any problem with chipping, no signs of fragility, but they are very strong. Our fifteen year old finds them extremely difficult to separate, the adults just find it hard work. With damp hands I can't remove them from the fridge, and even dry I have to rock them to break the hold. They come in a double walled tube which is just sufficient to keep them from sticking to everything and messing with any ferrous metalwork they come close to. Good to play with, but be careful round credit cards, CRT monitors, and anything else that is susceptible to magnetic fields.

These things are dangerous. Which, of course, makes them quite fun. They will chip if you allow them to hit each other forcefully, which will happen frequently unless you're VERY careful (I've broken one so far). Very strong. Would purchase again if I could figure out something useful to do with them.

Damn they are strong. Kinda fund item to have. Never really understood magnetism, and now that I have these, I still have no clue how magnetism works. But I do have fun playing with these :)

This magnets are really strong, but after 5 minutes playing with them now 3 of 4 are broken because they attract between each one so hard that it is almost imposible to avoid the crash.
