5.0 out of 5 stars They really mean "Super-Strong", September 25, 2010

This review is from: Magcraft NSN0802 1/2-Inch by 1/8-Inch Rare Earth Disc Magnets, 14-Count (Tools & Home Improvement)
I was leading a group arts and crafts project which required a magnet. I thought due to the size it would be just a normal little magnet, but it was almost like a cartoon trying to use them! First, it was REALLY hard separating them. Then our watches, keys, pens, notebook binders, jewelry and nearby metal dishes and cutlery (I'm not kidding!), and any and all other things metallic, would get stuck to them and were very hard to pull back off. Once you managed to get it off, it would almost invariably get immediately stuck to something else next to you. It was actually quite hilarious seeing a room full of 12 people each going through all these same motions. It literally looked like an SNL skit!

The warning on the label says to keep them away from pace-makers and "do not eat". I'm certain they would indeed short out a pace-maker. Considering how funny it was trying to work with them while getting stuck to everything in the vicinity, we decided to seriously heed this advice. One could imagine frying pans flying out of the kitchen and gluing themselves onto the stomach of one who for some reason did eat one. It was really funny, and they really meant it when they said "Super-Strong". We thought they were just bragging, but no, it was very challenging working with them because they really are! Definitely high-quality magnets. Perfect size for a toddler to swallow, so keep away from children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly Strong & Very Useful magnets, September 16, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Magcraft NSN0802 1/2-Inch by 1/8-Inch Rare Earth Disc Magnets, 14-Count (Tools & Home Improvement)
I purchased these magnets primarily for detecting counterfeits of collectible coins and gold bullion.

Most genuine U.S. coins are not magnetic at all (one exception is the 1943 steel penny) and some fake gold bullion bars (and maybe fake coins too) have a steel core. All steel is mostly iron which will always stick to a magnet. Silver and Gold are not magnetic so most coins and all bullion will NOT be pulled by or stick to a magnet. A 1943 Lincoln penny passes or fails a magnet test in the opposite way.

I intend to use only 4 to 7 of these magnets together as a cylinder for that purpose and use the others for some other useful purpose. They are much stronger than other types of magnets and will hold any paper to a refrigerator easily (2nd practical use).

They are incredibly strong for their size and are a little difficult to separate. I recommend that you keep them in the original container when not in use, because they will snap to any steel, iron, or other magnets more quickly and from a farther distance than other magnets.

They could also be used for science experiments if you need small, round, clean magnets.

A 3rd practical use: keep a few in your pocket and stick steel nails, screws, or other fasteners to the outside of your pants.

A 4th practical use: you could attach them to any ordinary steel or iron tool with a long handle (e.g., garden rake, hoe, frog gig, etc.) and then use that tool to search the ground (e.g., your lawn) for lost nails or other small steel/iron objects.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for a stainless steel refrigerator, March 21, 2010
This review is from: Magcraft NSN0802 1/2-Inch by 1/8-Inch Rare Earth Disc Magnets, 14-Count (Tools & Home Improvement)
Previously I bought the 3/4" x 1/8" magnets and they are incredibly strong, in fact too strong for my fridge front. Most of my magnets won't stick to the front of my stainless steel fridge at all and it's always bothered me. Now though thanks to $10 getting me 24 of these little guys I simply wrip off the old magnetic backing and glue these on or just glue these straight to the magnets. Although these are small they are still incredibly strong and one can easily hold up a multipage brochure on the stainless front. Nice.

I used Gorilla Super Glue which cured in 30 seconds so they worked great. One thing of note though was the fumes coming off of any excess on the sides will adhere to the fridge face so if you use this glue make sure to let your magnets sit by themselves for at least 24 hours before placing them on your fridge.

5.0 out of 5 stars The kids think I'm magic!, September 16, 2010

This review is from: Magcraft NSN0802 1/2-Inch by 1/8-Inch Rare Earth Disc Magnets, 14-Count (Tools & Home Improvement)
Got these today and started playing around with them. I felt like I was 10 years old again. Looking for different things to do with these magical pieces of metal. My four year old came in and I made up a bunch of magic tricks hiding one magnet and making the other move around. Making it stick to my hand using another magnet on the back of my hand to make it stay in place. She was mesmerized. Then I put them to good use and epoxied a couple opposing magnets to some doors to keep them held shut.

I'm going to order some of the larger ones to see how strong, strong can get. Even if you don't need them- they're fun to play with, and I'm sure odd jobs will come up where I'm glad I have them.

Enjoy!

I am using them to build a device for a cometition. They were perfect! Very powerful, and my classmates couldn't stop playing with them. Keep them away from children. TOO DANGEROUS to be a toy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Greatest magnets ever., January 24, 2010

I bought these because I needed som ereal magnets for my fridge. Not only have these magnets gone well above and beyond their intended purpose, but now I use them at work, and divy them up for my friends. They are great fun to play with as well, however, they are so powerful that I have pinched my fingers a few times and ended up with blood blisters, so beware of that. These magnets are really not for kids.

These magnets showed up really fast and are great! They are pretty small and you need to have fingernails in order to break them apart if they are flat against a surface. I have taken to putting them on my fridge so they stick out and therefore easier to pick up. Very strong and would recommend them!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for my Radar Detector, October 9, 2010

I used these magnets (two on the dash and two on the detector) to attach my radar detector to my dash as I'm extremely lazy and hate that I had to constantly reach that extra few inches to the windshield. Plus I don't like having a window mount for the radar detector as it screams "please break into my truck and steal my detector".

Very strong - I would estimate it's much stronger than the 5.3 lbs they estimate is needed to pull two of them apart (perhaps the 5.3 lbs is meant as the force required to pull it away from steel rather than another magnet?).

Years of online shopping have turned me into a skeptic when it comes to the claims made by manufacturers about their products. I was very surprised when these magnets turned out to be the real deal.

I bought these to sew into a cover I was making for my bird's cage. The tough, heavy denim stays in place without sagging one bit, even when it has 2 layers of denim between it and the metal cage. They stick to each other so strongly that you need a strong pair of hands to get them separated. You should take serious precautions to keep them away from any credit cards, computers, TVs, etc.

If you're thinking of buying these types of magnets, this size seems to be the most useful. These magnets work great.
