A thoughtful, honest, and loving testament,

This review is from: The Magdalene Moment: A Vision for a New Christianity (Hardcover)
The Magdalene Moment: A Vision for a New Christianity is a thoughtful discussion of Christian spirituality and problems inherent in the Catholic church, as written by former nun Joanna Manning. Chapters discuss the difficulties Manning endured to become a nun, how she left the convent to get married, the shock of learning about scandals involving priests committing sexual abuse of children, how her efforts to speak out against such unforgivable betrayals of trust was the final straw that broke apart her marriage, and much more. The Magdalene Moment is at its heart a spiritual book with elements of memoir, rather than a memoir with elements of spirituality, and its core precept is an effort to draw upon Mary Magdalene as an inspirational model of "justice from the heart" as well as a call for women everywhere to take part in religious leadership. The Magdalene Moment seeks to reconcile and integrate sexuality with spirituality, rather than reject sexuality in the name of spirituality; to exalt the virtue of respect for religious pluralism into worship; and to reconcile the wonder of Biblical Creation with empirical truths revealed by modern science. A thoughtful, honest, and loving testament to worship in today's changing modern era and myriad social problems, enthusiastically recommended for Christians of all denominations.
