The is the much anticipated ending to a series of 8 books about the sons of destiny. Before they were born, a seer prophesized that in finding brides these brothers would cause the destruction of Katan. So when the brothers were born of which there were eight in sets of four twins Katan exiled them to Nightfall Island for being the brothers prophesized of in the Song Of the Sons Of Destiny. They were isolated and banned from contact with others except for being able to trade or sell items that they needed in order to live, and the government of Katan. Thus they stayed until Morganen decided to forfill their destiny and as the eight brother was his prophesized duty to do so. All the brothers met their matches and fell in love and now it is Morganen's turn. His bride Hope, unbeknownist to even the readers, was originally fron Nightfall and was the last living member of the duchy; which settled the issue of how Nihghtfall could become a soverign contry. This was a good end to a good series although the issues concerning the couple and the issue of soverignty seemed easily solved compared to the other books and all the trouble the brothers and other characters had to go through just to find on how to call the convocation to order it was still a delightful read filled with action and suspense. Well done Jean Johnson.

5.0 out of 5 stars I am sad to see this series end, January 29, 2010
This review is from: The Mage (The Sons of Destiny, Book 8) (Paperback)
The final verse of the prophecy of the Sons of Destiny is about to come true.

Morganen is the last single brother on Nightfall, he was the matchmaker who played an important role in bringing his brothers together with their destined wives. Now it is finally his turn, but he knows that know one will be able to help him find his destiny, because his beloved Hope is not whom he thought she was. She is the Duchess of Nightfall who disappeared two centuries ago without a trace. Morganen realizes that his beloved could be the downfall of everything that they have achieved so far on Nightfall.

Wow, what a terrific ending for this wonderful saga. The readers get glimpses of the relationship between Morganen and Hope in the previous books of the series, but you would have never guessed what kind of secret is behind her person. Okay one knew that she lives in the same dimension where Queen Kelly came from, but who thought there would be such a world shaking secret.

I highly recommend that you read this series in the correct order, because all the books are strongly connected with each other, but the series is soooo much fun!

I am really sad that this is the last book of the Sons of Destiny series, but it is a worthy end. I am looking forward to what Ms. Johnson comes up next. She is definitely an author I will keep an eye on.

Thanks to Ms. Johnson for one of the best fantasy romance sagas in years!

4.0 out of 5 stars Reviewed by twolipsreviews.com, July 31, 2009
This review is from: The Mage (The Sons of Destiny, Book 8) (Paperback)
Hope is Morganen's betrothed. She is suppose to be the last bride to come to the island and fulfill the prophesy. But Hope has many secrets, deadly secrets that could endanger them all, even herself. When Hope comes clean to Morg he tries to accept her revelations. But a new danger comes, one that follows Hope and wants to stop the prophecy and put an end to the brothers once and for all. Can love save them both? Or will deceit and betrayal end all hopes they have of bringing peace and love back to the land?

Jean Johnson ends her Sons of Destiny saga with The Mage. This book holds more secrets and heat than any of the previous books. I loved the characters and am finding it hard to let them go. Hope is a strong, independent and fragile at the same time character. She has a lot of things going against he,r but she can overcome the odds and find her true happiness. Morg is lost and confused but trying to hang on. He knows the light is out there, he just has to be strong enough to wait for it. I found this segment to the Sons of Destiny to be the best way to end the series Ms Johnson could have thought up. You really get a jest of where this book is going and their futures. While I was sad to see this saga end, The Mage is a novel you all must own, for the Sons of Destiny series are books to remember. This novel is book 8, and I highly recommend reading them in order to completely enjoy this story to its fullest.

Throughout the entire series I looked forward to hearing Morg's story. Out of all the books he seemed the most playful, interesting, and mysterious. I did enjoy many of the other stories, but overall I felt as though I was enduring the Kelly Doyle character. To enjoy a book, I feel you have to at least "like" the characters (or like to hate them). Kelly annoyed me to the extreme. Yet, even though she played a major role in this book, being Hope's best friend, I found her character toleratable. I was able to enjoy reading about Hope and Morg's first meeting.

I think Johnson had a good idea when she had her character Morg tell Hope she had to woe him instead of the other way around. Unfortunately, that ended by the next chapter. From there on the book became stagnant with me. There was not enough action and adventure to hold my interest, and since Morg and Hope made up and were planning their wedding, there was not enough of romance, either. I feel Johnson could have done better with this one. So, I'm a bit disappointed, especially after waiting for this one for so long.

This entire series was fantastic, I read them out of order from friends, then bought them myself to read in order and keep!

I don't know how you can add more books to a limited series, but I would like to read a few more stories about Nightfall. The children of these couples should prove interesting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book.....great series!!, April 25, 2009
This review is from: The Mage (The Sons of Destiny, Book 8) (Paperback)
I have loved this series from the beginning. I too am sad it had to end.
The plot lines and the brothers kept me coming back for more.
Eight brothers that each had their own story to tell and mate to find.
The author did a wonderful job. Too bad the series had to come to a close.
It is not very often you find a series that each book was as well done as these books were. Thanks to Jean Johnson, I had a great adventure.
Still say my favorite was... "The Flame". I will miss "Nightfall".

4.0 out of 5 stars Saved the best for last, May 19, 2009
This review is from: The Mage (The Sons of Destiny, Book 8) (Paperback)
I have slogged through the good, the bad, and the ugly of Jean Johnson's Sons Of Destiny series just because I had to read Morg's story. The polite, charming, nearly all-powerful matchmaking mage of the cursed eight Nightfall brothers. Some in the series I liked, some I tolerated, and some I loathed. But I have to admit I was not disappointed with The Mage. Sometimes looking so forward to a book is just setting yourself up for a let down, but I was happy with Morg's destiny. And while Morganen was done justice in his installment, so was Hope. Of all of the Destined brides, I liked her the most, and thought that she had the best back story as well. It was also good to get the resolution to the whole Nightfall-as-independent nation theme, which began way back in book one, with the arrival of self appointed "Queen Kelly".

Through all of the series, my one major complaint has been my utter revulsion at the character of Kelly Doyle. If it is possible to hate a written character, I am pretty much there. I have found her to be at turns abrasive, domineering, demanding, arrogant, childish, abusive, and ungrateful. And so it is with quite the shock that I must say that I didn't totally despise her in this one, even though she played her usual major role. And while I will never like the character, she did not turn me off of enjoying this finale in the Sons Of Destiny series.
