From other reviews, I was mildly concerned that I would need someone to install the backup camera for me. I am extremely "handy" but my vehicles are the one thing I have always left to experts (fear of voiding warranties). Once I received this kit, I saw that the installation very basic. The camera is wireless and screws onto the license plate bracket. The only part that requires any hard wiring is tapping the camera into the reverse light circuit so that it knows when to switch from GPS to camera view. I installed this into a 2009 F-150 pickup, so all I had to do was pull the taillight off, feed the transmitter cable through channels in the chassis from underneath and use the wire tapping clips (provided with the unit). Within 20 minutes I had the whole thing installed and tested. That said, access is much easier in a pickup than a sedan, so if I were installing it into a car it would likely have taken longer.
As far as my initial take on the unit's functionality: the large screen is excellent, and the GPS pretty much like any other. The rear reverse camera feed looks great in the daylight but is quite poor in the dark. I have experienced some jumping in and out of the reverse view when backing up, which I attribute to interference with the wireless signal (to protect it, I attached the camera transmitter high up and inside a railing in the chassis). I may need to relocated it, but the issue has been sporadic and I can live with it so far.
All and all, solid overall value for the price of the unit.
