Affordable and easy to use, the Magellan GPS 315x is the ultimate outdoor guide. Upload detailed land and nautical points of interest (POI) using the included DataSend CD-ROM. The GPS 315X comes with a PC connection cable and carrying case.

The GPS 315 boasts a 12-parallel-channel receiver for superior tracking performance under the toughest conditions. This pocket-sized unit will navigate you to 15,000 cities worldwide or bring you back to as many as 500 user-entered locations. It displays nine easy-to-follow graphic navigation screens that show bearing, heading, distance, speed, and more on a high-resolution, backlit display.

Among its other features are 500 waypoints, 20 routes with 30 legs, a resettable trip odometer, and a weatherproof exterior with rubber grips. It runs on two AA batteries with up to 15 hours of battery life.

The DataSend CD-ROM helps you find such diverse destinations as museums, amusement parks, wineries, campgrounds, and boat harbors. It comes with more than 500,000 uploadable POIs in 35 categories, including cities around the world, nautical navaids, campgrounds, ATMs, museums, tourist attractions, and parks.

For example, you can search the DataSend software to find various Napa Valley wineries, along with their addresses and phone numbers. Transfer the data into the GPS 315x from your PC, and the downloaded wineries will appear on the unit's detailed plotter screen, allowing you to find these destinations--whether you're traveling by foot, bike, or car--using the unit's satellite navigation capabilities.

You can upload up to 20,000 POIs to the GPS 315 using the included PC connection cable. The DataSend software is compatible with Windows 95, 98, and NT 4.0 or higher.

Although it won't give you street leval mapping, or list every convience store in the smallest towns, the 315 serves its purpose. Its simple to use, and perfect for marine or land use. It is usually within 13ft accurate, and has great memory features for the price. If you are looking to by an eTrex, consider this upgrade. It's well worth it.
