Pros: Inexpensive, paperless geocaching, and after you read directions very simple to use. I have dropped it several times and use it in very very harsh conditions (sand, rain, wind, heat) and it hasnt skipped a beat. It is absolutely durable. Also, I personally love that I can set up searches on geocaching.com and it uploads all geocaches within my search with ease. Excellent starter unit! I am actually purchasing another one for my sister and her family to start geocaching!

Cons: I dislike that the compass doesnt work until you move, the screen is very small, base map cant be upgraded, and it is hard to see in the sunlight.

Overall, we are very happy with the purchase of this item. We will be replacing it within a year to a more advanced geocaching unit, but for a starter geocaching gps it is absolutely perfect.

this gps has lead me to 110 caches so far and works really well i get a signal all the time it seems and get me what i am looking for 10,000 caches i can load with hints is great

I've had this GPS for about 6 months now. This GPS is perfect for geocaching. I've only had signal trouble one time and we were in a pretty dense wooded area. I love the paperless features included as well. I carry this with me all the time just in case I want to randomly stop and look for a cache.

This little GPS is GREAT for GeoCaching, that is what is made for and it does the trick! Easy hook-up to your PC and you get all the info on the Cache you are going to hunt for! If GeoCaching is what you want to do, this is a nice unit to start with. I recommend it!!!

Perfect for the fun world of geocaching. Keep it up to date with simple uploads from geocaching.com. Works flawlessly.

I'm only giving this a one star because they will not allow a zero star. Having already purchased a Magellan Triton 500 and having to send the unit back because the GPS encountered unexpected errors and would lock up after 35 days of owning you would think I would steer clear of Magellan. I figured out how to correct the internal errors thanks to a Triton Forum blog, not that the manufacturer would tell you how to fix it. When the gps works it works great.

So we purchase the Magellan explorist GC for our son's birthday. Took out of the box, loaded charged batteries in the unit it only displays the Magellan logo. We down loaded the Vantage Point software and the computer does not recognize the until being hooked up to the pc.

I can't believe being burned twice by shoddy products... I know fool me once shame on you...In therory this looks like it would be a great unit to geocache with but we will never now. We are returning it and are done with buying products from Magellan. A few friend of ours cache with DeLorme's gps maybe we will go that route.
