Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

The Magellan GPS 300 is an affordable GPS receiver that features waterproof construction, rubber armoring, and enough memory to record up to 100 favorite locations. The EZstart feature gets you up and running quickly, while other features such as Nav, Go To, and Mark show you where you are, take you anywhere you want to go, and bring you back again.

The GPS 300 has three navigation screens that indicate bearing, heading, distance, and speed readings to identify your position and progress. A steering arrow points you in the right direction, and the Cross Track Error feature identifies distance to the right or left of your desired course line. The Time to Go indicator estimates the remaining time to your destination.

The position screen shows latitude and longitude coordinates and a directional indicator to identify north. In addition, this screen also displays satellite status information, including elevation, number being used, and a tracking indicator.

This receiver runs on two AA alkaline batteries (not included) for 24 hours and comes with a wrist strap and manual.

The Magellan 300 is a good GPS for begginers . It is inexpensive and has a good battery life (as long as the backlight isn't used often). It is waterproof and very durable. The Magellan 300 is a good GPS .

5.0 out of 5 stars A magellan pioneer gps now called gps 300, November 22, 2010
This review is from: Magellan GPS 300 2.2-Inch Portable GPS Navigator (Electronics)
This is my first gps it has around 13-14 years in my own, it's a excelent gps fishing and hiking.

Pros:
Lighweight
Fits very well in my hand
Uses AA batteries instead of rechargeable ones, so if you ran out of batteries but you can use rechargeable ones.
The batteries compartment is water proof
When the unit gets warm and you are in a open area it will take less than three minutes to the gps to track your position
Easy to use
Cons:
Maybe in cold weather it will take a little bit of time to acquire enough satellites to track your position
If there are no enough satellites you will lose the info about your actual position.

NOTE: This GPS is designed to be used with maps and it has two options for the maps: WGS84 and NAD27 (fabric configuration). For the coordinates you have three options: 1 deg/mins,deg/mins/secs and UTM (Universal Transverce Mercator). For the north refence you have two options: magnetic or true (geografic). Speed units you have three options: Knots MPH and KPH, when you select the MPH option distance and velocity units will be imperial, in KPH will be metric units and Knots will be in nautic miles (speed and velocity).

You can use the gps without an active route, in the batteries compartment there's a screw with a small loop which you can use to hand a strap to hold your GPS while you are walking or use to hang it.
