5.0 out of 5 stars convenience
I have used the Meridian Vehicle Mounting Bracket in three different vechicles now (my Ford Ranger and two rental cars) and that is the reason I rate it so highly - it can go where I go. I haven't had any proplem with vibrations, as one of the previous raters mentioned, so I am glad I spent a few extra bucks to get this model.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not perfect.
1. If you intend to use a serial/power cable with this bracket, the screw retainer used to hold the connector to the GPS is hard to get at due the the bracket's arm. Now, this may not be an issue if the bracket holds the GPS in securely enough against the connector pins - [edit] turns out this is a non-issue.

Now, this may not be an issue if the bracket holds the GPS in securely enough against the connector pins - [edit] turns out this is a non-issue.

2. Because it is mounted from the top (window) and hands down, the GPS moves around a lot and depending on where you locate it, it can vibrate against the dash. [edit] the vibration on the dash is a big issue. You need to put a piece of rubber or felt on the bottom of the bracket.

I think if you have the surface space, the swivel mount is probably the better option. I am going to order one and try it out.

3.0 out of 5 stars Does The Job But Could Be Better, May 1, 2004

Addendum: I recently found out that attaching items to your windshield, such as this bracket, is now illegal in the state of California.

So what are we supposed to do? Set the GPS receiver on the passenger seat and take our eyes completely off the road every few seconds? Might as well eat, shave, and read the paper while driving, too!

I'm now looking for a dashboard bracket that works for my Meridian Color that does not need to be permanently affixed or would damage my dash in any way.

Turned up nothing so far.

--------------------------------------------------------

This mounting bracket does the job in holding your Magellan Meridian but it could be improved by having a footing of some sort so that sharp edges on the bottom don't dig into your dash.

The three suction cups that adhere to your windshield could also be placed differently so that vibrations from the road are dampened instead of making your GPS appear as if it's in some 7.9 earthquake.

Overall, however, these are small issues since the bracket is sturdy and holds the GPS unit securely. The bracket arm is bendable but strong and the holder swivels horizontally so that you can adjust it to almost any viewing angle.

To minimize the vibration the unit needs to be placed low on the windshield so that the bracket rests on the dash. Use some protective padding underneath so that your dash doesn't get damaged from the vibrating bracket.

An excellent feature of the bracket is the ability for the power cable connector to snap onto the back of the car bracket so once everything's in place all you have to do is pop in your GPS unit and drive off.

I was intitially very hesitant to buy this product based on the reviews I read. After I received it and installed it, my mind was made up immediately that this product is well worth the money you spent on it. Easy to install and allows you to keep your eyes on the road while knowing excatly where you are. A must for any Magellan Meridian gps.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magellan Meridian Vehicle Mounting Bracket - rocks !, July 22, 2005

Very solid. Previous rumors that bracket "vibrates" during driving are untrue. Holds GPS in place very nice and does not vibrate at all. Flexible arm and swivel base allows to adjust the unit just they way you want. I highly recommend it.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK, it works on _some_ cars., April 24, 2003

Depends on the dash & windshield layout. Worked fine on my 1997 Ford Explorer. Didn't work on my 2003 Explorer. As others have said, it attaches to the windshield, and hangs over the dash.

DO NOT BLOCK YOUR AIRBAGS! I have not tasted my Meridian, but I don't think I'd like to be picking one out of my teeth. Or, your teeth either, if my rescue squad is called to your accident.

The adjustable/bendable section just wasn't long enough for the new car. So, I took the swivel mount down from beside the computer, put hook/loop tape on its bottom, and now the GPS rides in the swivel mount on the middle of the dash. On a trip, it sits there in plain view to help me find my way; or the empty mount sits there while the GPS is wandering around off road with me. At home, the GPS is in the storage space between the seats, and my rescue squad's red light sits on the hook/loop pad where the GPS swivel mount was.

Suggest you buy this item ONLY if there is a no-question, money-back, policy from your supplier. It worked well for me for 80,000 miles, but didn't fit the new car. IF possible, try before you buy.

I like what I got. It is useful and it was inexpensive. The suction cups grip firmly. The rotation mechanism functions well.

my GPS did not fit getting wedged inbetween my dash and windshild at all so this makes using my GPS a lot easer. directions were not great for how to remove the power plug. there is a tab in the back that slides for removing power serial conecter and then the tab to push down to remove the GPS from mount. been in my windshid for 4 weeks not and has not come off great unit. :)
