This is my first navigation system and it was given to me as a gift. The sound is superb. The touch pad could be a little more sensitive, as it seems that you need to use your fingernail or more than a fingertip to get to the menus. All in all, a great product.

You can't beat Magellan RoadMate 1212 for the price. While it has a lot of the same features of the TomTom and the low-end Garmin's, it does not skimp on any of the extra features. Incredibly small, portable, reliable, with a long battery life.

Announce the street names in a very clear speech, when I miss an entrance it recalculates a route pretty fast. I am satisfied with it. Bought it back in December and it has been behaving good so far. I am able to find most of the Points of Interest that I have searched as well.

Only two cons:

-it takes forever to find the satellites after I turn it on. I have to turn it on before I leave so it will locate itself with no delay.
-battery takes forever to charge and it does not have a power cord charge. Battery fully charged only after a 4 hrs travel.

This is my first GPS unit to be used in an auto; used Magellan in an airplane and we're completely satisfied with its performance. Because of where we live, we have to travel to distant cities in order to do any major shopping. The RoadMate never fails to direct us to our destination with turn-by-turn voice instructions. Couldn't be more pleased with the product.

This Magellan RoadMate 1212 Portable Auto GPS works better than the factory installed GPS in my 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Because the data base is stored in solid state memory it is quicker at calculating and re-calculating routes. It has more points of interests stored in its memory than on the DVD of my factory installed system. I have been very impressed with this small portable but economical GPS from Magellan.

As the owner of a online used automotive dealership[....], my customers are always looking for ways to make the most of every dollar they spend. I have a Magellan GPS is my own car and often suggest my customers consider investing in one both for its affordability and reliability. My most recent purchase was for a Christmas gift to a family member. Needless to say, she is very happy with her new Magellan RoadMate 1212. Easy to use, clear graphics and well designed. I highly recommend this unit to anyone shopping for a GPS system for their car, truck or van. Thanks. Todd, California.

I bought a Roadmate 1212 and after 3 month of unfrequently use it stopped working. I always suspected that was something wrong with this unit because the battery life was awfully short. Although the agents were efficient and courteous. Reaching the customer support was a nightmare (all agents are busy now, plus no weekend support). After paying the shipment back out of my pocket they sent me a new unit. After 20 days the new unit have the same problem now they will pay the shipment and promised that they will fix me well this time. I got my third one and is not working neither. After all this hassle I won't buy this GPS neither I will recommend it to anyone.

Very affordable price and at the same time has all the features drivers would want. I have had mine for about 8 months now and i dont know how i would have been able to navigate the los angeles traffic without it. Sylvester Madagua, California
