5.0 out of 5 stars Great fun!
The characters grab you from the very start. I love a story that has a strong female protagonist and 'Maggie for Hire' does not disappoint. The author has a way of drawing the reader in as if you are witnessing first hand the events as they unfold. I highly recommend this book. I hope the author writes a sequel - I want to know what happens next!

3.0 out of 5 stars Traveller of dimensions and vampire slayer
The beginning was great, it promised to be an interesting para supernatural read and it most def. had all the boxes ticked for the genre. The vampire hunter who can travel from one dimension to another, the lost loved one and the evil relative. Add a cute elf and hey presto you're on to a winner. Except for me it was slightly dissapointing, because I felt it swayed too...

5.0 out of 5 stars Action-packed Inter-dimensional Thrill-ride, February 17, 2012
By
Description:

Maggie MacKay is a tracker; she has the ability to cross between dimensions and track down the monsters that want to start trouble in the human world. So when Killian, a messenger from the Elf Queen, shows up with a job - stopping a group of vampires from using humans as juice boxes - Maggie can't turn down the opportunity to kick some blood-sucking butt. Unfortunately, her family is more entwined with the inter-dimensional brawl than she realizes, and the only way to stop the madness is to find a couple magical objects and unleash a secret that could put everyone - and everything - in danger. With the help of Killian, her family, and a few otherworldly allies, can Maggie find the relics and stop the approaching apocalypse? Or will the world end with her neck on the chopping block?

Review:

After seeing the cover art and reading the blurb, how could someone not want to read this book?! I have always been a fan of the otherworldly, especially when it involves a no-holds-barred heroine who doesn't take any B.S. from anyone - or anything, and can dole out a mean arse-kicking. That's why I loved Maggie For Hire! Maggie is a great character; well-developed, strong-willed, and full of attitude. She reminds me of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but more sure of herself and less fragile. The plot is action-packed, full of gory detail, and overflowing with the "unladylike behavior" promised on the back cover. I had a lot of fun reading, and was surprised that it was over so fast. The chapters were a nice short length, and the dialogue was fun and feisty. I only wish that I would have taken my time so there would be more to read! I hope that there is a sequel because Kate Danley is one heck of a writer! Recommended to older teens and adults who want pulse-pounding paranormal action that will leave them craving more!

Rating: On the Run (4.5/5)

*** I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Maggie is fun!!, January 22, 2012
This review is from: Maggie for Hire (Maggie MacKay - Magical Tracker) (Kindle Edition)
Maggie is a great heroine. She's got a good work ethic, loves her family, and doesn't fall into bed with every guy she meets. She's smart and she can kick butt when it needs to be kicked. I enjoyed this book and will positively look for more from author Kate Danley.

5.0 out of 5 stars This heroine can't be beat!, January 17, 2012

Printed on the back cover of Maggie for Hire, is an intriguing disclaimer stating: "WARNING: This book contains cussing, brawling, and unladylike behavior. Proceed with caution." Right away, I knew this was a book for me. Combine vampires, ghouls, and one whip-smart, take-charge heroine, and you have a recipe for success. Kate Danley has served up a female lead character to fill the gap that the ending of Buffy the Vampire Slayer left in the world of sci-fi/fantasy.

Maggie McKay was born into a family with magical powers- hers being the ability to open portals between dimensions and track down the monsters who are causing trouble. She has become the most sought after tracker in both realms, Earth and The Other Side, making the world safer one demon capture at a time. So, when she is approached by a messenger (Killian) of the Queen of the Elves to stop a group of vampires from breaking down the boundary between the realms, she finds herself in the middle of a decades-long battle.

In her quest to keep the order and stop irreversible damage between the worlds, she learns more about her family than she ever knew, and finds out she is more connected to the situation than she ever would have thought. While seeking out the magical objects that will end the fighting, Maggie kicks the ass of all those who get in her way. Her mission is clear- save the world, reinstill order, and survive to tell about it. With the help of her elf sidekick, Killian, she may be able to pull it all off.

Maggie for Hire is an enjoyable, quick read that had me laughing the entire time. She is a brash, sarcastic, unladylike character than is easy to love- a lot of Buffy with a dose of Daria thrown in. Danley doesn't get off track with trying to throw in a romance for Maggie, which is somewhat refreshing in today's sci-fi/fantasy genre. She is a tough, smart, and resourceful lead character that will leave you waiting for more. Ms. Danley: please tell us there's more to come from Maggie? I'll be first in line to read what she gets into next.

I am new to reading Kate Danley, Author and I was not let down with this novel! I agree the characters catch you from the start, especially Maggie McKay! I love how the book is written with quick wit and the Maggie having a sarcastic tone to her throughout the novel.

I would love to see a series made from this adding more characters and "tracking".

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome fun read., December 9, 2011
In Maggie, Kate Danley gives us such a character to love. Her sarcastic wit and female empowerment make you wish Maggie wasn't a character in a book but was really available to kick some bad guy butt. I absolutely loved this book. Worth a read for anyone into fantasy action stories. I just cant wait for the next book in what I hope will be a long series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Zippy and fun ride through an alternate LA, December 2, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
As a fan of old school Janet Evanovich and all Charlaine Harris, I'm always looking for novels with a combination of fun and grit. Maggie For Hire has an abundance of both. Zipping you through a recognizable LA with some serious SciFi/alternate universe twists, Kate Danley has created a protagonist who is at the same time tough and quirky. She's laid down a fantastic back story that she will be able to pull threads from for many novels to come (which I look forward to!) This is an excellent choice for those who have run out of Sookie Stackhouse novels, or simply run out of patience with Evanovich for regurgitating the same plot lines.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great romp!, November 16, 2011

This was a fun entertainment! Graham Greene used to write both his serious books ("The End of the Affair") and then his "entertainments" like "Our Man in Havana." This definitely falls into the entertainment category, and if you're looking for a great, fun, quick and entertaining read, this is a great choice. Maggie is a bad-ass vampire hunter, and along with her doe-eyed but ass-whuppin' sidekick, the Elf Killian, they go after ghouls, vamps and other things that go bump in the night! The safety of our human world is all that's at stake (get it? Stake? Like the pointy kind?) but whatever, no pressure, Mags.

Finally and honest take on which make the better lovers! Vampires are what they are - no hidden depths. But elves...! Now there's a species to sink your teeth into! Stop reading this and get this book! Ms. Danley is a far better writer than I am!

I very much enjoyed the book, Maggie for Hire. Kate Daley has a different take on where the paranormal creatures in our world come from and why they are here. I liked the interaction between the main character and her family. Plenty of action, catchy dialog and enough background to keep things moving. Plenty of room for a sequel and I do hope there will be one.
