Book Description

April 3, 2007 Fem Fist Books
Hey, good people! This is Bud Richter. I’m an over the road truck driver, six days on and four days off. When I’m on, I have one heckuva good time. I know all the best places to eat and all the fun-loving women to call, no matter where my company sends me.

“Wait here, kids. I’m going to get your mom a couple of Maggies.” Bud Richter parked his car in front of the Koffee Kup Kafe, where inside several farmers had gathered for their daily morning social. “I just don’t understand how it could have happened,” said one. “Our army used to be a force to be reckoned with,” said another in his awkwardly-tongued phraseology. The men were not happy, but at least on this day they had something of interest to discuss besides the weather. The Thursday news was four days old, but they were still talking about it on a Sunday, about the failed rescue attempt of the hostages in Iran. American citizens were still held prisoner. American soldiers died trying to free them. “It’s Carter’s fault,” one shouted from a back wall corner table, heating the debate. “That’s right,” said another. “He’s the one who let those dirty Arabs get away with this. God damned rag heads.” Sorrow, anger, and confusion energized the early-day drinkers of coffee and the restaurant where they gathered. Nothing much had changed since its 1938 inception, nor had the town of Holyoke, Colorado where the little eatery was situated. Dotted with square, metal tables made for four, plus three padded booths lining the windows, only upgrades on furnishings and new patterns of tablecloths varied from what had been, that and the topics of discussion on any given morning. Every day this group of men would pull two tables together, assemble and dawdle, never ordering a meal, never leaving a tip. “You’re all full of shit.” Bud Richter silenced their talk. “Is it Carter’s fault that Congress killed military funding? Is it Carter’s fault that our choppers ran into a sandstorm?” Nobody dared to answer him. Experience had taught them that their best play was to let him blow off his steam. Bud was not a member of the morning idler’s club. His intention had been to enter, purchase his pies and exit without speaking to anyone other than Maggie Dietrich, wife of the proprietor and finest fruit pie baker in Phillips County. Knowing Bud, the farmers in back should have halted their conversation as soon as they saw him, but the emotions of the event had clouded their judgement. Bud brought them back to reality. “You knuckleheads always talk out your ass, like you know something. Stick to your area of expertise... “ He altered his voice to a whiny twang and mocked them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rolling Adventure, November 16, 2007
This review is from: Maggie Pie (Fem Fist Books) (Paperback)
News flash: this book isn't about femdom, it's about a man who loves a woman, a man who cherishes his family, a man who speaks his mind and doesn't give a crap what others think about it, a man who any person would be proud to have as his friend, and a man who takes me on one of the most exciting adventures I've ever had the pleasure to read.

I had reservations about this book, having discovered its existence by way of mention in books written by Jardonn Smith, who writes gay erotica of men in chains. This book is straight, but the author is Uncle to the other writer, so I thought maybe the main character would be my type, mainly, a man who oozes machismo and takes punishment like Rambo. What I got was that and a whole lot more.

I got to ride in an eighteen-wheeler with Bud Richter, and believe me, the author put me right there in the cab with him. Together, we
1. hooked up with his female connections in the cities he passed through;
2. got the crap scared out of us, as we masterfully controlled trailer and truck with locked transmission downgrade into Salt Lake City;
3. suffered terribly as chaos broke out back home while we traveled eastward further and further away;
4. took on the detectives as they tried to be tricky and entrap us into a murder confession.

Get the idea? That's just the half of it. And don't think the kinky sex with his ex-wife is just perfunctory. There's a reason for it, it is passionate and it is forcefully moving. Just like all of this book is moving. I felt like I's running 90 miles an hour down a dead end street (I stole that from a Hank Snow song.)

Take Bud's wild ride. It's worth every mile.
