5.0 out of 5 stars Great Opening Episode on Fabulous Season June 17, 2010
There are many stars on the this opening episode, Most of it has to do with Kathy's making of a L&O SVU episode this past season. So we see her acting with Christopher Malone and Mariska Hagartay. They are all good, of course, but how can anyone possibly hold the screen with Liza Minnelli giving Kathy acting lessons in her penthouse? The three of them look like, well just like little screen tv people after you see Liza teaching someone how to perform! (As an aside, it is absolutely amazing how much she is like her late mother Judy Garland at this stage of her life.)

The next scene stealer is Maggie the Mother who, as usual, all but pushes Kathy off the screen as each season unfolds. She helps Kathy with her lines while drinking a glass of her every present boxed wine.

I saw the L&O episode which this first D List show covers. The D List version of the show is so much better than the L&O episode! And don't be fooled: Kathy was the best thing by far on that episode! Olivia and Elliott as a detective partnership has been coming across as stale and tedious lately so Kathy acts as a real shot in the arm. In my opinion, they could use some of her vitality injected into their characters. I also think they missed a big chance to make the fullest use of her. Had she been cast as a stand up comedian concerned in a crime, the L&O episode could have been fantastic.

You see Kathy in all stages of makeup and dress. She varies from looking great to looking absolutely horrible as the show settles on a look for her character. As usual, she will do ANYTHING in pursuit of moving herself from D List to A List.

This promises to be another great season and I will certainly be front and center next week for it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Talent Night at Seniors' Manor a la Kathy August 6, 2010
Kathy takes charge of the Talent Show in her mother's senior building so as to appease her complaints about her constant swearing in her act. Kathy goes all out including getting Broadway star Kristin Cheniworth to show her how to sing plus getting Cloris Leachman to appear at the Talent Night. It all goes off well and Kathy does a surprisingly good job of ending it with a surprise tune sung by herself for Maggie. This is not riveting stuff but it is entertaining.

4.0 out of 5 stars All About Maggie July 13, 2010
How much you like this episode depends on how much you enjoy Kathy's Mom, Maggie. I enjoy Maggie more as Kathy's comedic sidekick rather than as a major character in her own right. This episode explores Kathy's developing Maggie's commercial appeal by starting a Maggie clothing line, a mumu and a Maglet (the Maglet looks kind of interesting actually). Then Maggie is commissioned to write a book (as told to a ghost writer). There are funny moments with the best being Kathy's taking to the runway and showing the Maggie models how to work the runway for maximum commercial appeal. She is amazingly good at it. Apparently there are HUGE fans of Maggie on this show. I watch the show for Kathy and enjoy Maggie in the sidekick role. However, if Kathy is right, I am in the minority.
