Book Description

A puppy's first year brings many lessons. Maggie shares those that she learned while she lived with The Man in the middle of nowhere in an off grid home.

Maggie's short, simple book, will remind us all of some important truths.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WAIT! Before you click the buy button, you may want to read the following Q&A.
Q: Do you really mean it when you describe the book as "short" and "simple"?
A: Yes. The book is short and simple, as you might expect from a puppy. It's heavy on pictures and short on words.
Q: What kind of book is this? Is it a novel? A short story?
A: No, not either of those. It's a small, simple, short, succinct collection of observations that you might expect a puppy to make.
Q: How can you justify charging so much for such a short, brief, simple, small book?
A: Let's put things into perspective. This small, simple, short, succinct, brief book costs less than most greeting cards. It costs less than a cup of coffee. You can't buy five postcards for the price of this book.
Q: Do you lead a lavish off grid lifestyle?
A: I lead a very simple lifestyle. Yes, my books are all written using solar energy. I grow much of my own food. I don't have broadcast, cable, or satellite television. My dogs often eat better than I do.
Q: So you're not trying to deceive us and hide a full length novel in here?
A: I've asked Maggie to sniff around, and she assures me there's no such thing. It's just a fun little collection of her observations and photos of her as a puppy. No novel, no plot, no character development, just fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Maggie's Book of Wisdom by Leland Dirks January 27, 2011
By Leslie
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book is written from the perspective of a young dog who lives with "The Man", her big brother Angelo, and a cat. Maggie's outlook on life is displayed creatively to include her thoughts and reflections on the finer points in life. She reminds us of the things we don't take the time to discover or enjoy for ourselves. This delightful 'short story' is accompanied by several pictures that include some of the most beautiful scenery. Although I don't recall there being any photo credits, I would guess that they were taken by the multi-talented Leland Dirks (a.k.a. "The Man").

I would highly recommend this book to anyone that needs to be reminded of what love and joy are all about.

Dog lovers, people lovers, and all who care for our world and our pets --this short but delightfully rich book is charming. It was a joy to share at a family gathering with folks from 5 to 75. We all loved it.

5.0 out of 5 stars You can't go wrong, reading anything from Leland! January 27, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Another great read from The Hermit, in this publication referred to as "The Man". Leland's has a wonderful, creative way with words and this writing reflects that perfectly! His love of animals and the environment he lives are reflected through Maggie's words. LOVE IT!

5.0 out of 5 stars What a wise young pup... January 28, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have had the pleasure of following Leland's blog over the years and have thoroughly enjoyed his adventures in the San Luis Valley in Colorado with his dogs Angelo and Maggie and "the cat." This little jewel of a book left me smiling and a little teary-eyed. The tidbits of wisdom Maggie offers focus on the small but important things in life. And the photos remind me of how much I love this beautiful, out of the way piece of paradise surrounded by breathtaking mountain ranges.

to Leland, I'm sure this book is exactly what they'd write. Leland must have listened well. The pictures included are just gorgeous, showing off the valley where Maggie, Angelo, and Leland make their home.

If you love dogs and smiles, this book must be in your Kindle collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars As always, Leland Hermit conveys beautiful thoughts.... January 28, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Leland Hermit once again gives us a warm and welcome view into his life through the eyes of the precious Maggie. I remember when Leland adopted Maggie and have followed the times when Angelo decided to go out into the world on his own leaving The Man alone. Leland chose to adopt Maggie - and Maggie brought new warmth and content to Leland's life. When Angelo returned Maggie and Angelo became true brothers. This story always brings tears to my eyes and I can not wait to read the world as told by Angelo! Good job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Should Not be classified as a book
For we dog lovers calling this little collection of dog observations a book is a bit deceptive. It's instead maybe five pages of prose written from a dogs view point. Read more

More About the Author

Leland lives in the middle of a beautiful nowhere that is Colorado's San Luis Valley. Angelo, the world famous Border Collie, and Maggie, his black Lab philosopher mix, allow him to share their off-grid home. All three tolerate The Cat who does a merely adequate job of rodent control.

Angelo and Leland's first two collaborative efforts, Seven Dogs in Heaven and Angelo's Journey, are now available in Kindle, Audible, and paperback formats.

Their most ambitious book yet, Jimmy Mender and His Miracle Dog, has just been released for Kindle, and will soon be available in paperback. A story of journeys, of losses, of gains, it illustrates that sometimes the only way to find out what's important is to leave everything behind.
