Book Description

"A true-to-life family saga set in the contemporary west that is both endearing and well written. You won't want to miss this compelling tale by Ricki Wilson." ~ The Kindle Book Review

ABOUT MAGGIES FALL:Maggie McClellan is a single and single-minded woman whose sole purpose in life is to protect the M-Bar Ranch and the M-Bar Ranch family: her son, T.J.; Martha and Jonah (who have lived on the ranch as long as Maggie), the M-Bar horses, and one stray dog who knows all of Maggie's sorrows.
Maggie is smart. She knows how to run a ranch and how to keep her guests happy; she knows to stay out of Martha's kitchen and not to leave Jonah's tools lying around; she knows how to sooth a frightened colt and that T.J. worries too much for a little boy; but she doesn't know how to stop an anonymous investor from buying out her leases.
Maggie will not lose everything her parents built. Saving the M-Bar is the only way to keep her parents' memory alive. When the pressure of holding everything together weighs too heavily, Maggie breaks a long-standing rule: she rides off alone across the M-Bar pastures without telling anyone where she's going.

REVIEWS:
"Maggie's story moved me; I became attached to her and at times wished I was there to help. That is to say that this book is so well written that the characters are alive, you feel their presence and their emotions as you turn the pages." ~Alain Darmon

"Maggie's Fall has everything I like in a novel. The plot is well-paced and never contrived. The narrative voice is engaging and subtly reinforces the story's sense of place, which is to grounded in authentic detail that I imagine the M Bar ranch must be out there somehwere in Texas." ~Dreambeast7

"Independent and intelligent, Maggie reflects the modern day woman. She takes risks, supports her family, attracts the interest of the most eligible men in town, and all with just a cup of coffee and a heavy dose of humilty." ~Alana Siegel

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

I did not write Maggie's Fall to be either gender or genre specific. It was important to me that Maggie appeal to all readers who love a good story. While there are romantic elements in Maggie, it is not a Romance; nor is it a Western, although I hope it evokes the spirit of the west.

About the Author

Ricki Wilson is an independent author and professional educator from Oklahoma.  Growing up among genuine cowboys, Ricki learned at an early age to appreciate the true value of a good horse and a faithful dog.  Maggie's Fall, Wilson's first novel, is a tribute to both.

5.0 out of 5 stars Maggie's Fall is a touching story of triumph December 28, 2011
By Jimmi

I read Maggie's fall in a matter of hours, because I could not put it down. It is a beautiful story with many emotional ups and downs. The imagery is so well portrayed that you feel like you're watching a movie rather than reading a book. The characters are impeccably developed and I found myself relating to all of them, even low-down Bronc Weller. I don't even drink coffee and I wanted to try a freshly brewed cup from Martha's cozy kitchen, along with one of her cinnamon rolls. Witt is a dream man and Maggie definitely deserved him. T.J. and Tabbi, Martha and the sheriff; Jonah is the only one won needs to find a mate. The furry characters may be the best in the book. I loved reading about Jett's life story and how he came to be such a force in is his family. I wholeheartedly recommend this book and look forward to a sequel!

5.0 out of 5 stars What a pleasant read! November 3, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I enjoyed reading "Maggie's Fall". What can I say about Maggie? She is a hard working woman with a heart of gold. I imagine Maggie as a beautiful woman; beautiful but not sexy, she is a ranch lady who can work with her hands and seems more comfortable in jeans than wearing a gown. She has the natural beauty which never ages because it reflects the beauty of her personality. She lives a tough life, but she is strong and never gives up. Alas, when it comes to men, she does not know how to test them to see if their feelings are true or not.
Maggie's story moved me; I became attached to her and at times wished I was there to help. That is to say that this book is so well written that the characters are alive, you feel their presence and their emotions as you turn the pages. It is a book which I will go back to. I wish to read more about Maggie, is she happy? What happens to her now?
If like me, you like romance; but not the cheap/easy feelings/fairy tale romance, then you will love this book. If like me you like strong characters living real lives, then you will identify with them and love this book. If like me you love nature and the country, you certainly will love this book.
I definitely will buy Ricki Wilson next book without a moment of hesitation.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Solid Story November 20, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Maggie's Fall is something of a coming of age romance. Throughout the book Maggie is beset with troubles, from the potential loss of her land to a troublesome relationship she finds hard to leave.

Everything changes when Maggie is thrown from her horse during a storm. Will she survive? And will she discover what true love is?

Although the book was well-written from a technical perspective and R. Lynn Wilson has a great voice, I had some difficulty getting into the story. Once Maggie fell from her horse, the story gained momentum and impact and ended with a great finish.

I think the story itself is flawless and perhaps I'm too accustomed to the fantastical element in stories. (This was a tale told closer to real life, and it's definitely worth having a look at.)

4.0 out of 5 stars A poignant story of love November 12, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
MAGGIE'S FALL was a very enjoyable read. The characters are well drawn, each possessing the human complexities of people we all know. You will find yourself rooting and hooting at them as the twists and turns of their own life choices will hook you until the end. Some of the people you will immediately empathize with and like, while others you will avidly root against. It is a book I recommend you read. You will certainly learn about life, and maybe something of yourself, in the story of Maggie and her struggles through her own life and relationships.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Story About What Really Matters in Life March 24, 2013
By LSN
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
A beautiful story about love for family, children and animals. The author gently takes us into Maggie's world and once you're there, you can't put the book down. You're suddenly in Maggie's kitchen, loving her horses, wanting to pet her dog and overall, living in a Texas ranch. It's a very uplifting book written by an author with an unique voice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Maggie's Fall (Ricki Wilson) November 28, 2012
Format:Paperback
Maggie's Fall (Ricki Wilson)

Maggie McClellan lived an average life in the corporate world in Urban Texas with her ten year old son. When her parents die, she goes back home to the family Ranch. She finds the Ranch is in financial trouble and she will do what ever it takes to keep it up and running.

The characters are colorful and likable, the plot was good, the story line had me turning pages to find out what would happen next. I am not big on Romance Genre BUT Maggie's Fall really kept my interest. Maggie is a strong lead character, I really liked her and wanted her to succeed. I enjoyed this read from the first page up until the last.

5.0 out of 5 stars Skillful Storytelling June 30, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Maggie's Fall has everything I like in a novel. The plot is well-paced and never contrived. The narrative voice is engaging and subtly reinforces the story's sense of place, which is so grounded in authentic detail that I imagine the M Bar ranch must be out there somewhere in Texas. Most of all, the characters are complex and altogether believable. I feel as though I know them and can't help rooting for them, hoping for the happy ending they deserve. But Maggie's Fall is no fairy-tale romance. It's a romance that unfolds in daily life -- a world of responsibilities, disappointments, and work as well as loyalty, friendship, and love.

And finally, the story is inspiring. This isn't essential for me, but it's a nice bonus. If you want to read a novel that reaffirms your faith in the goodness of people, despite their shortcomings, Maggie's Fall is for you. Wilson has not just created a world that you want to believe. It's a world you can believe.
