5.0 out of 5 stars A novel of joy and hope..., October 6, 2003
By
If you are down and feel like life is little better than something you might scrape off your shoe, then the best thing you can do is pick up anything written by Ms. Kingsbury. This book is no exception.

Megan Wright chose a "love" based on worldly measures, and it left her a heart broken single parent, convinced love is a sham. Her son feels her pain, so with childish innocence, he writes God asking for a miracle for his mom. Though the letter is never mailed, as Megan (Maggie) does not know the address, it has a surprising result.

Equally pain filled is Casey Cummins, a widower who responds to an ad for adults to help hurting children. Being paired with Maggie's son turns out to be the best thing that ever happened to all three, especially when Maggie learns the truth about who Casey is.

***** All the events here are things that could be dismissed as coincidence, but the discerning heart will see them as miracles God has used ordinary people to work. This is a beautiful story, one that will touch your heart with joy and hope. *****

4.0 out of 5 stars inspirational family drama, October 7, 2003
Two years ago George Wright died from a massive coronary leaving behind his wife Megan and their six year old son Jordan. The surviving Wrights lost more than a father and husband as both still mourn his death. With Megan fully occupied as a NYC prosecutor, Jordan feels lonely. He writes a letter to God asking for a daddy for Christmas. Megan sees the note and decides to sign up her son with the Healing hearts Program.

Restaurateur Casey Cummins has never recovered from the deaths of his wife and baby. His caring friend persuades him to volunteer at the Healing Hearts Program. His child is Jordan. As he and Jordan become pals, he and Megan fall in love, but both must overcome the ghosts of losing their first spouse.

This inspirational family drama is an enjoyable contemporary tale that encourages those who have lost a loved one not to give up on life. The three key characters seem real and those coaxing them to start anew with fond memories add depth to the theme. A neat twist involving the teen past of the adults will turn some off, but most readers will see it as MAGGIE'S MIRACLE.

4.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable Quick Read, April 20, 2005
The nice thing about the Red Glove Series is that they still have an interesting plot and a testimony of faith, but they can easily be read in one sitting. This book was easy to get into. I didn't read the bookjacket before reading the book and so was surprised at how the story progressed. Megan is a bitter widow who overworks herself, since her job is what she loves. But Megan has an eight year old son who misses his father and how they used to play together. Megan reads about a mentorship program that matches grieving children with adults that are willing to offer the services to play with and support the children. She quickly signs up her son Jordan and waits for the response from the agency.
Meanwhile Jordan is waiting for a letter he wrote to God to be answered, praying for a Daddy like the one his friend has. Both of their wishes seem to be granted when Jordan is matched with Casey, who owns a cafe in town and so has flexible hours. Casey becomes a significant part of Jordan's life, and when Megan takes the opportunity, a significant part of hers as well. It takes a lot for a heart as hardened as Megan's to love and believe again, but Kingsbury makes it work out. Though this book is a quick read, I wouldn't really call it a light one, but it's definitely worth reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Red Glove series gloriously continues!, February 11, 2004

The Red Glove series has added another success to its name!

This novel, though short, has a lot of life within its pages.

Though the ending wasn't really a surprise, it was such a 'feel-good' book it doesn't matter if you're surprised. I found myself grinning during the happy times, as the climax built up, and getting teary eyed during the 'looking back' phase of the book.

No matter what, you will finish the book and be grateful you have a heavenly Father that looks out for you ....... in bad times and most especially in good.

Thanks Karen Kingsbury, for your dedication to providing quality fiction to readers that like a good, clean book to relax with at the end of a long day!

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable, December 31, 2008
Megan Wright is a tough district attorney in New York, she's focused, career driven and widowed. She doesn't have time for love and she certainly doesn't have time for a God who doesn't believe in love either. She has to deal with her 8 year old son who is grieving his father's passing and her soap opera loving mother who just happens to live with them.

Casey Cummins is a successful restaurant owner, he's friendly, handsome and in wonderful shape, but on the inside his heart is breaking over the loss of his wife and their unborn son.

Through a series of miracle like events Megan and Casey are drawn together, as Casey joins a program to help grieving childern with the loss of a parent. He becomes a 'special friend' to Jordan, Megan's son.

It's fun to watch as Kingsbury begans to crack Megan's icy facade and Casey and Jordan pray for a special kind of love that only God can provide.

A great read. Wonderful ending!!! 5 Stars

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, December 13, 2005
Okay I am not plugging another book, but if you read "Tuesdays at Morrie's" you will love this book. It is for anyone that lost hope in God, Love, or just life in genreal. Faith is what it all boils down to. I picked it up and read it in a day. I had no idea what it was about but after the first page I could not put it down. As you read you feel for the character and their pain/joy. I especially loved the part that she incoporates Sept. 11th into the story line. I have ever intention in reading more of Mr. Kingsbury books. I look forward to the eye opening experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful, Wholesome Love Story, March 6, 2008
With Maggie's Miracle, readers are treated to the second of Karen Kingsbury's Red Gloves Project Christmas Story works of fiction. The author of more than a dozen "life-changing" works of fiction, is perhaps best known for her first Red Gloves story, Gideon's Gift. Kingsbury has incorporated "the red of Christmas, the red of a heart full of love and hope and Christmas miracles" into Maggie's Miracle as well.

The Red Gloves now have a cameo role in each of Kingsbury's Warner Christmas Stories. At the end of the book, readers can find a wide array of Red Gloves Projects in which to share the spirit of Christmas as close as one's own back yard, or as far away as the other side of the globe.

In Maggie's Miracle, readers are drawn into the stories of the three main characters. Each one is unique, yet each one is intertwined with the story of the other. In simple, heartfelt ways, Kingsbury offers a story of hope, of loves lost and found, and of the wonder of a child's answered prayer.

Megan Wright and her son Jordan are in search of love. The difference between them is that Jordan is looking for the love of a man who can step in and be a daddy to him. Megan, a driven professional woman, isn't even aware of her own searchings. She has allowed herself to wall off the emotional sides of her own being and her mother nature--no doubt, a defense mechanism to avoid getting hurt again. Though Megan is not looking for a relationship, her actions bring one to her doorstep in an unexpected manner.

Jordan's letter to God, asking for a father figure, sets Megan into a series of actions that will change the lives of her, her son and a man named Casey Cummins. Casey is searching, too. He is searching for a way to dull the pain of the tragic loss of his wife and son. When Casey volunteers for the Manhattan Children's Organization, and Megan enrolls Jordan in the same organization, three lives are destined for a change of near miracle proportions.

To share the outcome, or even the path to the outcome, would be to give away far too much of the story's charm and energy. Readers who like a good, wholesome love story will be delighted with Maggie's Miracle. Readers who are not familiar with Kingsbury or her Red Gloves Projects will find their own hearts touched by the Red Gloves.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fairy Tale Like--Cute, November 26, 2007
I liked this book because it caught me off guard with its pleasant surprise ending. It's a story about a boy who lost his dad early in his life and was being raised primarily by his grandmother because his mother was so busy with work. His mother was bitter on love until Casey, the boy's special friend through the Healing Hearts program, won her heart. It was a quick, light read. I loved the part when the boy wrote a letter to God and asked his mom to address the envelope for him because she knew everything. He just knew God was in heaven, but didn't know the street address. It was so cute.

They are actively involved in their church activities and love the books.
The 13-year old is an avid reader and the 11-year old is quickly becoming
one with Karen's books.
Thanks to Karen Kingsberry for wholesome reading and the gift of believing in miracles!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Very Sweet Book, July 7, 2004
This book was about Megan, a high powered lawyer who didn't believe in love due to a series of events in her life. Then there is her son Jordan, who prays for a new daddy and who wants her mother to believe in love again. Then enters Casey, who is matched with Jordan through a Healing Hearts program. Casey is struggling to overcome the death of his wife and baby.

This book was very short and to the point. But in such a short book, Karen Kingsbury was able to fully develop the characters, so that we saw why Megan didn't believe in love.

I loved the characters in this book, especially Casey. He is struggling with his grief, but he is able to help someone else out. I also loved the "Red Glove" theme in the book, about red being the color of giving. And I loved how Megan was eventually able to believe in love again.

I really enjoyed this short little book. I haven't read Gidean's Gift, but plan to get a hold of that book, too.
