Let's see, the only thing I can compare a soap nut to is a date. It's wrinkly, sticky, and the same size of a date - and even kind of smells like one too. The scent is not very strong, it's a really mild fruity smell.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fragrant like a wet dog?
My nuts came in a cellophane baggie that was not sealed, in a box where the glue must have been water soluble and had dissolved. Nothing was missing, but the packaging was surprising. I simply put my nuts in a ziploc baggie and am now almost done with my supply. I am concerned about the quality and consistency of this product, but cannot say that my experience has been at...

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible!, August 14, 2007
This review is from: Maggies Soap Nuts 100% Natural Laundry Soap (80 Loads)
Let's see, the only thing I can compare a soap nut to is a date. It's wrinkly, sticky, and the same size of a date - and even kind of smells like one too. The scent is not very strong, it's a really mild fruity smell.

You can use soap nuts for a variety of things: laundry soap, shampoo, body soap, pesticide, glass cleaner, the list goes on. The informative flyer it came with even said it can cure athlete's foot - so I'm soaking my feet in soap nut water every day!

The second I received my soap nuts, I started making my own liquid soap. All you need is 1 part soap nuts, 4 parts water - you can boil the soap nuts or let them soak over night. Then you just run the liquid through cheese cloth and viola, you got liquid soap!

I used my liquid soap as a shampoo. It was a little difficult to tell if I was using enough since the liquid soap is well, liquidy. So I poured some on my head and rubbed it in to my scalp and through my hair. It almost felt sticky when I was rubbing it into my hair and I was a little disappointed since I was expecting it to make my hair soft. When I got out of the shower though, my hair and skin were really silky. I don't think my hair ever felt so smooth, even with the really expensive shampoo and conditioners I use. It made my hair more bouncy too, like it had a lot of volume.

I have used the soap nuts in the cotton sack for my laundry about two times so far, but I still haven't figured that one out yet. I think I need to put a little more soap nuts in the cotton sack because my fiance's clothes are really dirty since he works construction. But either way, the soap nuts seem to be doing their job!

These soap nuts are really incredible. They don't leave a strong scent, they're natural, they don't make my skin itchy (like some soaps do), and everything they touch gets clean and silky. I am thinking about buying these boxes in bulk (which are available through Amazon too!). I'm so happy to have this alternative to soap since I don't like the idea of chemicals (even if they're supposedly harmless) on or near my skin.

Thanks Maggie!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nuts for Soap Nuts, June 8, 2007

This must be the only truly natural laundry soap. It grows on trees. And it works great. I have used it for months on my laundry and now I can't believe that I was using factory made chemicals on my body my whole life. The clothes are really soft and don't smell industrial. I found some refrences in Chinese herbal medicine that it is good for skin problems, so I gave some to a friend and it healed his athletes feet. I have just started making liquid soap and using it for everything. Thanks Maggie. This stuff is awesome.

Thank you for providing a natural soap. I have ended up spending less money than I do on detergent and my clothes are brighter, cleaner and softer. It also works on silk and wool, I can't believe it!!

Since I started using these soap nuts my skin doesn't get itchy/irritated and I've stopped sneezing! I know the soap nuts are responsible for my improvement! AND they leave my clothes really soft without adding fabric softener, even when I hang my clothes to dry. I think these soap nuts are amazing. Thank you, Maggie!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product!, June 2, 2008

Maggie Soap nuts work great. I bought it for my baby since many of the detergents gave him a rash. This works great in getting stains out and makes clothes smell fresh, clean and soft. It works better and is gentler than other mild laundry detergents. It is really neat on how it works they are actual nuts that you put in a cloth bag(provided) and you can reuse the soap nuts several times.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT PRODUCT!, April 20, 2008
This review is from: Maggies Soap Nuts 100% Natural Laundry Soap (80 Loads)
I've sometimes been disappointed with natual products not getting my dishes or laundry clean. I LOVED this product. My clothes were soft, smelled good (not a fake spring breeze smell), and came out clean. Highly recommended.

My husband and I recently took a 14-day adventure tour through the country of Nicaragua. We scaled volcanoes, waded through muck, kayaked and swam, and rode on some lovely (but smelly) horses. Each night we washed our clothes by hand in whatever sink/tub was available with the soap nuts we had brought, and every morning they smelled and looked as fresh as if we had first stepped off the plane. Amazing! I can't tell you how pleased we were with the results. In addition, my husband is a marathoner and regularly runs 6-20 miles a day. This is the ONLY detergeant that gets the inevitable funk smell out of his clothing after a long run. Plus, we only wash our clothes in cold water now because we don't need to use the hot water for heavy stains/smells. Long story short - this product WORKS. I've recommended it to everyone I know.

I bought a sample pack of these to try them out and fell in love with them. My clothes have never been so soft. I am now ordering it in Bulk. My husband even comments on how soft his clothes are. For a little scent on the clothes I would recommend Essential oil ( I use Lavender) that can be put on a damp cloth when you put them in the dryer.

This product is very interesting. When the soap nuts arrived I could not get over the fact that I was about to use them to wash my clothes- they look like something that could have fallen off a tree in my own yard! None-the-less they do seem to work fine for washing clothes. I have not yet tried them for any other uses. The box includes a "free gift" which is a pair of soap nut dangling earrings (if you enjoy wearing earthy styles, you'd probably really like them).

This review is from: Maggies Soap Nuts 100% Natural Laundry Soap (80 Loads)
This product is wonderful. I love the way my clean clothes do not have a chemical smell anymore. Amazing. Also, I emailed a question about the product to Maggie's and within several hours I received a phone call back. A PHONE CALL from a human being. I can't remember the last time that happened. Thanks guys. You rock.
