4.0 out of 5 stars Book can fall apart
This is a sweet book. It is the only book I have found that talks about weaning. But, it is cheaply made. I wish it was a board book, or at least put together better. (The book is paper stapled together)
The pictures are great. My daughter, of course, wanted to nurse after looking at the first two pages.
I really wish I could find a book about a baby being...

3.0 out of 5 stars is there anything else out there?maybe best optiion
My mommy friend raved that I have to get this as it helped her wean her girl. By the time i finally ordered it, my 2.5 year old was just weaned so I never used the book. However, I read it, and while kind of hokey, i know of nothing else out there that helps with pictures of real children- so I still recommend it.

I really wish I could find a book about a baby being weaned. This book is really for toddlers watching their new baby nursing and remembering when they nursed and were weaned.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great resource -- but DON'T OVERPAY!! Important -- Please read this review before purchasing!, March 9, 2007
This review is from: Maggie's Weaning (Paperback)
When it was time to wean my daughters (both nursed into the toddler years), this was a great book to share with them. I loved the idea of having a weaning party; we didn't do this, but we did mark the occasion with some amount of fanfare. If you can't find the book at Amazon for a reasonable price, be sure to check out La Leche League's website store, where you can get it for its COVER PRICE!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank you from the bottom of my heart..., July 14, 2006

This sweet book made such a difference when the time came to wean my nursing toddler. It is a simple, straightforward and loving story told from the point of view of a toddler who has stopped nursing. Maggie confides that she sometimes misses her 'mee-mees' - but also tells us that she is a big girl now, and can do so many things she couldn't do before. This is a touching snapshot of a very important milestone, and it helped my daughter enormously to hear Maggie's story and to identify with her during the transition. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for writing this book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Sweet, November 10, 2003

In 1998 this was a staple-bound book with b&w photos of the author's children, and I felt the text was a bit awkward...however, none of this seemed to matter to my child. She adored it. And with the promise of a weaning party, I'm sure this book really helped her come to the decision to wean by herself, which was always my intention.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thank God for books like this!, September 18, 2004
This review is from: Maggie's Weaning (Paperback)
Books like this one affirm our families' choices and help our babies feel normal and loved. :o)

For Mellissa- there's a new book availableon here or on la leche league's site called 'Michele the Nursing Toddler'. I spoke w/ the author yesterday and it is specifically for weaning time. :o)

This book does a wonderful job of dealing with the bitter-sweetness of weaning. My daughter and I throughlly enjoy reading it over and over again!

Cute book. I'm in the process of trying to wean my 2.5 year old and this was a nice story/ introduction to help her understand and give her some time to process things.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book -- a little flimsy, January 7, 2010

My daughter really enjoyed this book. We bought it back when she was weaning. The light paperback is a bit flimsy even for an older toddler; but then, it has more of a specific time period that the child would be reading it a lot, so it easily lasts that time and is still on the shelf for occasional re-reading.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely content, poor production, October 14, 2009

My son adores this book and, truly, it is the only book I have been able to find that sets up the expectation for my nursing toddler than someday he will no longer nurse. It does a great job celebrating nursing and even weaning and tells a very relateable story. My only issue with it, for which I cannot fault the author, is that the book is very cheaply produced and appears more like a photocopied journal, than an actual book. However, this does not detract from my son's enjoyment, and I am grateful to find a book that will lovingly aid in his gradual transition towards no longer nursing.

This book has been invaluable in weaning my 2-yr-old. We read it over and over as we got ready to wean, and this week, as I weaned him, we keep referring to it. I really think it helped him understand the process, and also be proud of what he can do now as a "big boy" that he couldn't do as a baby. Most of the time we adapt the text to talk about his favorite foods, drinks, toys etc now -- but it's great to have the pictures to refer to. I recommend this book 100%.
