I am having a real hard time getting in to Maggie's Wish. I would appreciate some encouragement from those who loved the book because I am just not feeling it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Has all the makings of a Christmas classic!, November 6, 1998

This review is from: Maggie's Wish (Paperback)
Need an escape from the holiday hustle and bustle? Or maybe you need a dash of Christmas spirit to get you going? Sharon Ihle's MAGGIE'S WISH will turn your Christmas cares into Christmas carols. Set in 1881, Prescott, Arizona; this Wild West romance has more twists and turns than a candy cane, but it is definitely as sweet.

Maggie Thorne wants to make her daughter Holly's yearly Christmas wish come true-- bring her Daddy home for Christmas. Unfortunately, "Daddy" comes in the form of the ne'er-do-well Rafe Hollister, the man who abandoned the pregnant Maggie seven years before. Maggie hires ex-Texas Ranger Matt Weston to track Rafe down. The twists and turns begin when Matt and Maggie fall in love. Neither of them can admit to their feelings or else little Holly's Christmas wish won't come true.

Matt decides to make Rafe into a man worthy of Maggie's love. Even if it means breaking his heart--and his bank account. If this wasn't enough to drive a Texas Ranger crazy, Rafe's current girlfriend shows up to complicate the situation. It's a comedy of errors all around with poor Matt trying his best to hang on to his sanity and poor Maggie trying to figure out if she should follow her head or her heart.

These characters will tickle your funny bone while their love story will surely warm your heart. With all the makings of a Christmas classic, MAGGIE'S WISH should be on every romance lover's holiday wish list.

I loved this book. Great characters, delicious story, and Ihle knows how to write genuinely funny situations and dialogue while warming your heart. The perfect Christmas read. Don't miss it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A heart-warming Christmas story for any time!, December 23, 2010
This review is from: MAGGIE'S WISH (Kindle Edition)
Maggie's wish is a truly heart-warming story of a woman determined to do the very best for her daughter after being abandoned by the girl's father when pregnant - all the more difficult considering this story is set in 1881. The man, a gorgeous Texas ranger, she hires to find the errant father also wants to do the right thing by not only finding him but making him a worthwhile husband and father. Woven with humour, tenderness and conflict, Maggie's wish is another of Sharon's creations bound to make make laugh and cry - sometimes simultaneously! Enjoy!

4 1/2 Stars! "Sharon Ihle is back and she is better than ever. Her latest historical, "Maggie's Wish" is historically accurate, funny and mesmerizing. Ms Ihle's storytelling abilities remain brilliant but her characterizations, with their depth and dimension demonstrate a gift that has been honed to a razor sharp quality" Harriet Klausner, Affaire de Couer Magazine

2.0 out of 5 stars Annoying Dialogue, September 11, 2011

This review is from: MAGGIE'S WISH (Kindle Edition)
Though H.L. Mencken pointed out that 99% of the time "y'all" is plural, this author had to be part of the obnoxious 1% and use it as singular in dialogue. That's annoying and inexplicable. Wish I hadn't bought this book, but I gave it 2 stars because it's far from the worst of the 99c offerings.
