Book Description

April 1, 2008
The coffee table book Magic Beneath the Seas is a photographic exploration consisting of over 300 stunning images displaying the beauty and wonder of the world's oceans. From the tiny 8mm Pygmy Seahorse to the large 6m predatory Great White Shark, the author endeavors to share with the reader the incredible range of life and seldom seen behaviors that occur beneath the surface as seen through the lens of a camera.

Five chapters lead the reader on a journey of amazing colors, exquisite camouflage, funny and sometimes bizarre faces and, finally, to rarely seen behaviors.

This set of images will, hopefully, allow people to experience something few are privy to and make them think twice about the environment they live in before all is lost forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible Photography, May 31, 2008

This review is from: Magic Beneath the Seas: An underwater photographic journey (Hardcover)
Steven Kovacs is an incredible photographer. Not only are the subjects almost impossible to photograph, they appear to be posing for him and displaying their unusual behaviors. He must have spent numerous hours on each subject to obtain such unique photos. The beauty of these images is unrivaled. As an underwater photographer myself, I am in awe of his expertise and artistry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Technical skill joins with an artistic perspective of the underwater world, May 25, 2008

This review is from: Magic Beneath the Seas: An underwater photographic journey (Hardcover)
The author exhibits both technical mastery of photography and the ability to reveal subtle artistic perspectives of life underwater. A well written book that is entertaining and informative, it features extraordinarily difficult-to-get shots that are possible only upon interminable hours of patiently observing fish behavior. I have heard the author speak about his techniques and confirmed that he should have, at a minimum, a rebreather, but preferably gills. It is only through this combination of technique, perspective and patience that such images are possible. A great buy.

What technically perfect images! I can say this book rivals all the top name pros. Should I only get one or two images that great I would be thrilled! Get a job with National Geographic!! I look forward to more great collections.
