2.0 out of 5 stars Where's the magic?, July 13, 2004
This review is from: The Magic of Bewitched Trivia and More (Paperback)
As I begin I am reminded of what Samantha's piano teacher spoke to the piano before he allowed Sam to play. "For what we are about to do to you, I apologize." I really do, as I want to say marvelous things about this book...I will begin by saying that I love the cover art, and I like the introduction. I also like the fact that recipes from foods from the actual episodes were used. But the rest seems to be a hodge-podge of random facts which are repeated over and over in the book. Yes, it is a book of trivia and more but some sections seem to repeat themselves such as which episodes had which characters in them. And is it really necessary to have TWO episode guides? Some of the information isn't even correct such as Hepzibah being referred to as Samantha's aunt, when in fact she wasn't, but was the High Priestess over all witch-dom. And in the description of Aunt Clara's past times, door-knob collecting not mentioned at all?! The most glaring error is in the trivia quiz about what country the episode entitled "Samantha and the Loch Ness Monster" takes place with Scotland not even being part of the multiple choice. (The answer is given as Ireland). And the use of italics throughout is as random as the facts are. It was also disappointing to find that in the approx. 300 pages only about 44 pictures are used, two of them being the same picture.

I was really looking forward to this book as anything on my favorite show is a plus but to quote cousin Serena, "...it sounded like it was going to be a ball, but it's turned into a real bummer!"

Hopefully future editions will be edited more carefully.

1.0 out of 5 stars Missed the mark - twitch past this one..., June 28, 2005
This review is from: The Magic of Bewitched Trivia and More (Paperback)
Save your money, there's no magic in this one.
As a lifetime fan of Bewitched and Elizabeth Montgomery, I was looking forward to another book on "Bewitched", as this devoted fan feels she has never received enough recognition for her career. There is definitely not enough written about one of the most beloved stars of classic TV.

"The Magic of Bewitched Trivia and More" should never have been published. Incomplete, inaccurate and minor trivia at best. Herbie J. Pilato set the standard of excellence with "Bewitched Forever" and Rita E. Piro's "Elizabeth Montgomery - A Bewitched Life" met that same standard and is the ideal complement to Mr. Pilato's book.
It is obvious how young Ms. Meyers is as the author, her material, the approach and choice of trivia. Trivia sometimes, but much of the information is opinion and not of significance like what you can find in the other books as well as the great Bewitched website.
Trivia also gets confused many times with the facts such as reference to Jerry Mathers as Marshall Burns in "Little Pitchers Have Big Fears" when it was his brother, Jimmy Mathers in the part.
True diehard fans agree - pass this one by.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't Pass This By, March 8, 2005

I absolutly love this book! I watched Bewitched when I was a kid and loved it. So to have this reference guide is great. This is not a novel, but indeed a trivia book. Anything you could want to know about episodes, characters and the actors is in this book. It's "matter of factly" reading. I also adore the recipe part. I was a child in the 60's and it's fun to look at how things have changed. It was part of that era to have a cocktail at home after work. How many people still do that? I like how she has the episode listed with the cocktail. Also, it takes a look back at what we ate back then. Think about how different we eat now. Not too many people make Irish Stew, Turtle Soup, or Coq au Vin any more. We do salads. I think it's a well rounded trivia book and you can find an answer to any question. There may be some spelling errors, but oh well. For it being her first book I think she did an awesome job! I've read it cover to cover and I think it's great reading!
