From Booklist
This cheerful 'cartoon musical' presents the toilet as a 'warm, loving, friendly, motherly, protective figure,' putting a positive spin on potty training. A girl shows her playmates her newly acquired toilet skills, and the bathroom contents (toothbrushes, soap, toilet paper, and the friendly toilet bowl) burst out in song. While visiting the zoo with his dad, a boy 'wants to go pee in the toilet' because his diaper is wet and his dad did not bring any replacements. His father sings a song to help the youngster 'spray at the target.' A young girl wants 'beautiful panties' so she gives up her bulky diapers. This film promotes good toilet habits (flushing and washing hands). The cartoonlike animation, sprightly songs, warm mood, and fast pacing will appeal to the target audience of toddlers reluctant to use the bathroom. --Booklist, Abby Alpert
Based on the expertise of child psychologist Dr. Baruch Kushnir, this cheery program combines colorful animation with catch tunes to guide parents and toddlers through the transition from diapers to toilet - without using a potty seat. The Magic Bowl begins with the introduction of cartoon characters Jennifer, Cindy, and Sammy Joe, “three good buddies from Crabapple Road.” One day while playing together, the kids notice that Jennifer's not wearing a diaper anymore - she has bright-colored, big-kid underpants and a medal declaring her to be a “bathroom champ.” Naturally, the other two are intrigued, and with the help of their patient moms and dads - as well as a friendly singing toilet - both learn how to correctly use the titular “magic bowl.” Depending on a child's attention span, the film can be watched in one session or in 3- to 4-minute segments. The visuals are tasteful but also realistic and practical, and the songs help little ones remember what to do in the bathroom, while also addressing common fears and concerns (one ditty titled “Poopy Drop!” focuses on constipation, and there's a rap intended to calm anxieties about accidents). Engaging for tots and helpful for adults, this affordable and well-produced how-to is highly recommended.

The Magic Bowl is like no other potty training video on the market. It is based on 25 years of Dr. Kushnir's experience in the areas of potty training, bed wetting, and sphincter control. The movie presents the toilet as a warm, loving, friendly, motherly, protective figure - this is a unique approach to help kids to cope with frequent and typical anxieties and fears of the toilet, which often are a serious obstacle in the potty training process

Just plain weird,

This review is from: The Magic Bowl: Potty Training Made Easy (DVD)
I'm not sure if I should rate this based on how much I like it or how much my children do. It's regularly requested, but it hasn't motivated them to use the potty. After watching Go Potty Go or Potty Power they'll try to use the potty chair, and talk about being big kids. After watching this one, all they can say is that diapers are icky. Which, while true, doesn't make enduring the weirdness of this movie seem worthwhile.
It's probably just me, but this entire movie could honestly be a South Park parody, without the profanity and vulgarity. The anthropomorphic toilet and diaper are strange, but the parts that really struck me as odd were the toilet smiling after being shot in the eye with Sammy Jo's urine, and the song "Poopy Drop." It does approach potty training in an interesting way. It teaches things the kids should know, and it talks about issues kids really do have (like constipation, or boys learning how to aim) and it tries really hard to touch on all of the things that could come up with potty training, like accidents and practicing. I like that it doesn't show a potty chair, but a regular toilet instead. But all of these pluses can't make me like the movie. It really is strange, at least in my opinion. I could overlook that if it made my twins want to use the toilet, but they just seem mesmerized by the sideshow when it's on! Three stars, because it really does teach some useful things even if I don't care for the method. The kids do ask to watch it once in a while, so they must not be as disturbed as I am when I watch.

This Helped My Daughter In Daycare! Thank You!,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Magic Bowl: Potty Training Made Easy (DVD)
We love The Magic Bowl! This was the only DVD that got through to my child. As a working mom, I had to quickly work with my daughter to get her trained before her daycare would let her move up to the next classroom, when she turned three years old. Even though she was not fully trained yet, they let her move into the new room with her friends. But, she had a ways to go, so the pressure was on. I was on a mission to help her get to that level and comfortably. That's when I was introduced to this DVD. Wow!! It took only a week and my daughter had a new outlook on going to the toilet. She absolutely loves the music and songs, and the characters express emotion and struggles that kids can personally relate to. The songs are so contagious that my husband literally would call me from work saying, "I can't get Jennifer, Cindy and Sammy Jo out of my head!" LOL. We both enjoyed many laughs with it.
My daughter Cassie also liked when I'd call her a "Bathroom Champ" just like in the DVD. In the evening, she'd ask me if she could watch the "movie with Jennifer and her friends going potty?" I'd jump up and say, Of course!" The part of the DVD when the boy and his dad need to leave the zoo before seeing the hippo because he wet his diaper and they didn't bring any extras was particularly interesting to her. She was able to see a direct correlation to cause and effect and the consequences, which was great. I'm recommending The Magic Bowl to my friends going through this process with their kids because it truly helps in a quick and fun way. I just had my second child and, while she's just three months old.... I can't wait for her to get to this phase because I'll be armed and ready to start her off right, from the beginning. I highly recommend this product!

Success with Potty Training,
By John P (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Magic Bowl: Potty Training Made Easy (DVD)
My wife and I have three beautiful children. Potty training with the first two was easy peasy. However, with our third one - a 3 year old boy - TROUBLE! He's a rebelious, stubborn (and charming, of course) little kid, and he did not want to even talk about potty training. Finding this DVD was such a blessing... the boy started singing and asked to go potty almost that same day. It has been three weeks since we purchased this and it's been working great!
