I absolutely loved this game. I've spent countless hours playing, and replaying this game, trying to find all the secret items and towns, every character and explore every nook and cranny in the game.
The game is so expansive and in depth it's hard to believe from a game so old. There is a lot of micro management, such as trying to raise money for your campaign, keeping your party fed and full of energy, and trying to remember where the nearest stronghold is when you need to retreat, as well as plenty of macro, such as mapping out expansive dungeons, running battle after battle, each one unique based on enemy abilities and composition as well as terrain.
Solving the mystery of the four and forty is engaging and enthralling. Finding hidden gods, speaking with tortured ghosts and digging up hidden treasures is all part of this sprawling adventure. This game is a sandbox game and not at all linear. Part of the fun is taking your time to speak to people, and sneak into enemy towns to find out where the Candles you seek are and how to get in. You can go in any order and bring any type of party you can imagine. There is so much to do you could spend a year finding it all.
This game was the most fun I ever had and still love to go back and play around with my old party or start a new one. If you can tolerate the dated graphics and the older controls, then I can't recommend this game enough!
