This review is from: Magic Carpet (Video Game)
When I first got this game I played for a bit, didn't care much for it and set it aside. I am a heavy RPGer the original Zelda and Diablo (pc version) being the top 2 old school favorites. Dragon Age series OMG! Top new RPG for me....Anyway back to the review...... one day I was bored and picked it up again, this time I gave it the proper attention it deserved. Magic Carpet is great for several reasons. First It is a level clearing game, I enjoyed that aspect because once a level was cleared I could save and put it down. (This is important because housework must get done at some point and the children do demand food at inconvenient times during game play.) At each new level game play gets harder and your strategies must change. You can not save the game until you clear a level, this actually made the game a lot more fun for me, I enjoyed the commitment to finish each time I started a new level. Each level starts with a new world, you must kill creatures to collect mana, as your mana increases you increase your castle size, find hidden treasures, spells, attempt to kill the other wizards, and destroy their castles. You clear the board when you collect enough mana and restore the worlds equilibrium. You receive stats at the end of each cleared world. Did you find all the hidden treasures? what percent of creatures did you kill? Etc. At this point you must decide, am I happy with those stats? Do I save or do I need to do it again? Most of the time I am not happy with the stats unless they are close to perfect (the perfectionist in me)But I must admit there are some levels you are so happy to finally complete you save no matter what! I am surprised this game didn't get more attention, it was a sleeper, one of those little treasures you are happy to find. Today I bought the game for the 3rd time (keep loaning them out and not getting them back) along with Odd World, Wipeout, Gods of war 2, Baulders gate, and Shadow of the colossus. I am looking forward to a nostalgic journey with my old PS2 favorites.
