Great BIG Microwave!,
This review is from: Magic Chef 1.6 Cu Ft Countertop Microwave Stainless Steel MCD1611ST
We needed to replace our SS Samsung microwave after 6 faithful years. Wanted a big SS micro without too many unnecessary buttons, this fit the bill! Bought at HD for 119.00 + tax which was a better deal(about $7) than the $35.00 shipping charged by Amazon, plus we needed it now. This microwave is large, sturdy, and powerful. If you have children the pull handle in my opinion is better because you do not get little finger smudges. It has all the little things, add/deduct time, popcorn time, and defrost. You will not be disappointed in this microwave.

Disappointed on short life and general operations,

We bought this model on the strength of the Consumer Report rating. I think it is quite over-rated.
It has an 8-year warranty on the magnetron, but the cost of labor and shipping is such a large percentage of a new oven that is is pretty meaningless. After 18 months, the part died in a puff of ill smelling smoke during dinner preparation. We used the unit on a daily basis for heating water for coffee in the morning, reheating leftovers, and making instant rice, potatoes, etc. So our average time for a use would be in the range of 3 -5 minutes, except when doing defrosts of 1 -2 lbs. 2 - 3 times per week. While it was working it did a good job for basic heating, but was unreliable using the automatic, weight-based defrost settings -- they always went to far and partially cooked the food, especially with chicken. For reasons I never understood, I frequently had to re-open and close the door to start operations, especially when I wanted to use the "add a minute" feature. This operational "quirk" was quite annoying in the middle of busy meal preps.

Stops working on long jobs,

We bought this microwave because of the price (less than $80) at a local store. It works fine for reheating foods less than 2 minutes. Tried popcorn and it works fine for the first bag, but overheats an internal breaker and shuts off if you try a second bag. Took it back to the store and got a replacement unit. It did the same thing. We like the oven, but doesn't work very well. Guess we have to find another unit we like.

Powerful, but Loud,

I've had this microwave for almost a month now. It's a good, powerful unit. I haven't had any issues. However, be warned, it is LOUD. The fan/microwave system is very loud. The beeper when the timer goes off is loud and unlike some other brands, that beeper doesn't stop when you open the door. It keeps going.

Total Piece of Junk,

This microwave had the same problems as another reviewer stating the timer was off. It lasted about three weeks before the turn table started making a loud noise. Now it will power up but won't heat anything. Don't even think about buying this total piece of junk.

I just got this oven a week ago from a local home improvement store. I am not happy with it.
I've had a Sanyo micro for 20 years that finally went. After using a microwave for years you get to know how long your chosen time should take. Anyone whose used microwaves for a long time will understand what I mean. This unit has issues. I like to keep leftover coffee and reheat it the next day. So I noticed that when I would set the timer for say 2.5 minutes, it would seem to get done a lot quicker than it should. I also noticed that the timer count down wasn't right either. Sometimes it would go really fast, then slow, then speed up, then slow down.... it should count down at a steady rate. It doesn't. In addition, sometimes that 2.5 minutes would cause the cup of coffee to boil over, and sometimes it wouldn't be hot enough and I'd have to put it back in for more time. This is always with the oven set to High, and using the same cup/amount of coffee. It happened to me again today and finally I got a stopwatch. I set the oven for 30 seconds. Actual time was 22 seconds. I set it for 40 seconds, actual time was 24 seconds, I set it for 75 seconds, actual time was 52 seconds. Not only is the timer not working correctly, but the power levels seem to be fluctuating as well. This is NOT acceptable. It is going back as soon as I can get it there. There are a lot of consumer complaints about Magic Chef ovens, including having them turn on by themselves, and catch fire. Stay away from this thing, it is junk.

Piece of junk,
This review is from: Magic Chef 1.6 Cu Ft Countertop Microwave Stainless Steel MCD1611ST
My wife and I bought this microwave when we moved out of our apt into a house. We spent a little more than we intended because we wanted a good name brand and a large oven, ten months after we bought it while reheating some fast food it died. We used it daily to heat up frozen foods but it was hardly overworked, some days it wasn't even used. When it died we called MC and the closest repair center was almost 30 min away and they wanted us to take it there, I called back and told them I didn't think I should have to pay to have warranty work done and they scheduled to have the company come to our house.

Quit working after 3 years,
This review is from: Magic Chef 1.6 Cu Ft Countertop Microwave Stainless Steel MCD1611ST
Do NOT purchase this microwave! It stopped working just after 3 years. It would turn on but wouldn't heat anything. It was not expensive but I sure expected it would and should last a lot longer than that. The microwave I had before this one had similar life span (maybe 4 years). I hate to keep throwing such big items away and wasting mother earth's resources! What is wrong with the manufacturers these days? I am willing to pay more but more expensive models are not necessarily better. Sad! Sad! Sad!

Just bought this last week, used maybe three times. This last time at stopped heating anything. Would shut itself down, then come back on in a few minutes. Just tried it again with no luck. I love the way it looks and it's price, but it working is more important. I'm so sick of companies making crapping products. It's such a waste of our time to purchase it, bring it home, set it up, repackage it, wait in line at the return counter and then have to search on line for a reliable product. Why can't all stores carry reliable products? I thought HD did until now.

I bought the Magic Chef MCD1611ST about 3 years ago. It stopped working this week. The microwave cook or defrost option no longer functions. I would expect a microwave to last longer then 3 years. Magic Chef Customer service was not helpful.
