Great Christmas album,
By "allisonv7" (Dayton, Ohio) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Magic of Christmas: Call Me Claus (Audio CD)
I've read the reviews people have posted and I don't believe they do this record justice, it seems most of them are just complaining because it's Garth Brooks. So let me clear this up, this "Call Me Claus" release of "The Magic of Christmas" is the same album, with three additional tracks on it, so if you already bought "The Magic of Christmas" look into buying the Call Me Claus single, which is also available on amazon.com, it has the three tracks that were added on it. Ok, now that situation is explained, this really is a good Christmas album, done with the Garth-flare that many people enjoy, but if you're too ignorant to see past things you have previously disliked from Garth and don't actually listen to the music you're not going to like it. But for those folks that buy and album for the songs, this is a great one....it's has many classics on it as well as some new great Holiday songs. Listen to the sound clips available and if you like the sound of it, as I do, purchase the album, don't automatically disregard it because you don't like Garth. It really is a nice Christmas CD for your collection, and I definetly recommend it.

Garth Re-Does Christmas,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Magic of Christmas: Call Me Claus (Audio CD)
Garth Brooks' The Magic Of Christmas was actually released in 1999, but marketing master Brooks has re-released it with three new recordings from the tv-movie Call Me Claus. They register two hits and a miss. The noisy opener, "Call Me Claus" is all swagger and no substance, but "Zat You Santa Claus?" strongly reprises the jazzy Louis Armstrong chestnut (on the latter, an animated Brooks is delightfully unrecognizable). Faring best is the nativity tale "Mary Had A Little Lamb" which offers some welcome relief from Brooks' frequent histrionics. The remainder of the album is made up mostly of faithful renditions of familiar, modern Christmas classics ("Let It Snow, "Winter Wonderland," etc.). A note for those who bought the original The Magic Of Christmas: a CD single is also available of just the three new recordings.

Super new Tracs!,
By Tabitha D Barnett (Somerset, PA United States) - See all my reviews

I love Garth Brooks and he never disappoints me. I love the three new tracs on the CD. Call Me Claus is a rocking Santa song, Mary Had a Little Lamb is my favorite. Garth singing with Trisha harmonies make it a joy to hear. Great song to add to my Christmas favorite list. Zat you, Santa Claus! What can I say Garth knows how to have fun with a song. Just love this CD.

Clearing up the confusion,

This review is from: Magic of Christmas: Call Me Claus (Audio CD)
This CD is the reissue of The Magic of Christmas, which was originally released in 1999, that now includes three new songs from the made-for-TV movie Call Me Claus. The three songs removed from the 1999 version to make room for these songs are Go Tell It On the Mountain, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen and White Christmas-- all of which appear on Garth's first holiday release, Beyond the Season, from 1992. So, if you have Beyond the Season and don't already own the 1999 version of The Magic of Christmas, then this version is the one for you.
You will not need the 3-song Call Me Claus single UNLESS you have the original issue of The Magic of Christmas and actually care enough about Garth's holiday tunes to track it down.

Saving my money,
By Matthew Peck (Littleton, MA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Magic of Christmas: Call Me Claus (Audio CD)
Thanks to Amazon.com I can save my money (sorry Amazon.com). I have the first incarnation of this disc, and that is all I need. I was able to listen to the three new tracks, and only one is a keeper to me, "Mary had a little lamb." The other two, while fun, have bumped other good songs off the original album. If Garth had added these three new songs to the existing disc, I might have purchased it as a replacement. But since he cut out three great songs to add on good one and two so-so tunes, i'm saving the cash.

Garth is wonderful!,

Okay, I play trumpet...I love Jazz/Big Band and I love Garth's music too. If you are a fan of REAL music you will love this CD. Garth's sweet voice and the powerful big band sound will make this a holiday favorite. I play it at my portrait studio and everyone loves it. The problem is, that people think just because Garth is a country artist he cannot sing other formats of music. Well, ladies and gents, Garth has something called versatility, which we musicians value greatly! It's a shame that people can't accept music for what it is. Just for laughs I play the CD for people and don't tell them it's Garth and guess what....they love it!

Decent,

Go straight past the ... who wrote the one star review and enjoy this album. Once again, a release that is just for a nice holiday entertainment has to be bashed by some mindless reviewer who just doesn't like Mr. Brooks. Will this juvenile, moronic, hateful behavior ever be stopped?. This is a nice album and Garth sings very well. Obviously. You know that. Ignore the one star review at all costs.

One of my favorite Christmas CDs,
By Chris (Havelock, NC) - See all my reviews

I am not a big country music fan, or Garth Brooks fan, in fact I own only 4 country music albums. However, this Christmas album is one of my favorite in my collection! My favorites are "Call me Claus" and "Mary Had a Lamb". "Call Me Claus" is one of the funnest, upbeat Christmas songs in my collection. "Mary Had a Little Lamb" is one of those songs about the real meaning of Christmas. I didn't know what to expect when I bought this CD, but I have really enjoyed it!

A must have holiday CD,
By A Customer
This review is from: Magic of Christmas: Call Me Claus (Audio CD)
The Garth Brooks holiday CD is a great collection of traditional holiday songs as well as one or two originals. His versions of the songs are close to the original and have great musicians playing the background. This is a really fun Christmas CD!This CD was never billed as another Christmas CD, but as a replacement to the "Magic of Christmas" CD. It's even named the same! The only addition has been the two songs from the Call Me Claus movie. If you think they're trying to dupe you into buying the same album twice, you're just not paying attention. Regarding the other reviews of this album. Many people find it hard to believe that a person can be as successful as Brooks and not be ego-maniac. As far as his retirement goes, he announced last year that he would be retiring from touring. He also said that he would release one more regular studio album (Scarecrow). He's done just as he's said. I just don't understand why people can't follow that simple timeline and quit bashing because they think he's retired more than once. (He's no Michael Jordan!!) |
