This is, indeed, a complete resource for both the beginning and intermediate quilter wishing to indulge in crazy quilting, that 19th-century amalgam of patchwork, appliqu, and embroidery that is enjoying renewed popularity today. Michler takes the reader step by step through the creation of a crazy quilt and in the process teaches four different piecing methods, 15 embellishments, and more than 1000 embroidery stitch variations. Stitches are divided into broad groups and include stitch diagrams, color photos, and suggestions for use. Highly recommended for public libraries.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the most Complete Crazy Quilting Book I have Seen, November 19, 1999
This review is from: The Magic of Crazy Quilting: A Complete Resource for Embellished Quilting (Paperback)
I have been doing Crazy Patchwork for about a year now and collecting books for about that amount of time, and this is the best one on technique that I have found. Michler takes you from choosing supplies to finishing techniques. I picked this one up because I was needing to learn some techniques for actually finishing a quilt. This was perfect and also taught me some new ideas on embellishing. I disagreed with a few opinions in the book, but as far as technique goes, this is THE book for Crazy Quilting. If I had had this book a year ago, teaching myself would have been so much easier.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book gave me the courage to *start* a crazy quilt!, September 17, 1998
This review is from: The Magic of Crazy Quilting: A Complete Resource for Embellished Quilting (Paperback)
I have been looking longingly at crazy quilts since I was 14, and collecting books on crazy quilts for about 8 months. *This* book actually gave me the courage to start a crazy quilt of my own. The pictures are lovely, the instructions on construction are clear and concise and the sheer number of embroidery ideas is staggering. I have carried this book around with me in the days since it arrived poring over the pages and saying to myself, " I can do that." An ideal book for the beginner, wondering where to start, it also contains plenty of ideas for the long-time quilter looking for something new to inspire her work. Michler has truly captured the 'magic' of the crazy quilt and made it accessible to her reader.
