Four versions of a nice song,
This review is from: Magic (EP) (Audio CD)
This CD from A Flock of Seagulls contains four versions of a song by the name of "Magic." The CD was released in 1989. "Magic" is represented as a radio mix, an extended radio mix, a dance mix with vocal, and a dance instrumental mix. I find all four of these versions of "Magic" to be enjoyable. Every version features tight musicianship and worthy sound quality. Mike Score does well with the vocal delivery. There's a good mixture of guitar and keyboard playing. The CD packaging doesn't include the lyrics to the song. There's a photo of Mike Score on the back of the CD insert. The CD is just over 24 minutes in duration. "Magic" is a melodic and atmospheric pop rock song.

Not your father's Flock....,

This review is from: Magic (EP) (Audio CD)
Anybody who is still looking for that brooding, new wave, post modern, synthetic style that A Flock of Seagulls almost created all their own should stop right where you are. Because this single isn't it. Basically you will only get that sound from their first two albums. After that (Dream Come True, this single) you have a different band that gets more different the further down you go.
That being said Magic might not bring back hardcore New Romanticism, but as a new wave/rock song it's pretty solid. Mike Score's singing style still has what it takes and the smooth flow of the chorus in this song does take me back even if the instrumentation doesn't. If I had to compare this single with the whole album Dream Come True then Magic easily wins. The downside is the single only has the one song done in three different versions that are really not that different from each other. I keep finding myself going back to the radio mix because the extended and dance versions just aren't different enough to make this a single worthy of what other singles have done. Give some strong variation to the song. To conclude the song is good, but don't expect a lot. So am I glad I got this single so many years ago? Yeah... I think I am.

Pure genius!,

This song is pure genius, like all the music made by Mike Score. He could have been a great classical music composer but he decided to rock our world instead. He the king of new wave with Bowie and the Thompson Twins!
