A perfect book,
By Ruby K. (Michigan) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Magic Elizabeth (Paperback)
I read this book over and over as a kid of eight or nine - it was an especially good book to curl up with when I was feeling lonely or blue. My dog-eared copy gave out finally, and I never could find another. Often I have been sad that I couldn't share some of the most beloved stories populating my imagination as a kid with my daughter. Imagine my joy when this lovely book came available again! I'm not ashamed to say I was emotional and shed a few tears of happiness (a good book will do it to me every time). And, of course, I bought a copy for my little girl, to whom I'm going to read it aloud.
This book is sweet without being cloying, it's an adventure mystery without villains or violence, it's a puzzle to be solved without competition, it's a "growing up" book without preachiness. It's charm is boundless. Adults will enjoy it, I think, as much as their children. Good reading!

I originally read this book when I was about 9 years old and have never forgotten it. I decided to look for it at amazon.com, never dreaming I would find it, and here it is! It is one of the best books I've ever read in my life. I plan to order one for myself and one for my 8 year old stepdaughter. It is a great book!

Magical Storytelling,
By Deborah Gabsy (New York, NY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Magic Elizabeth (Paperback)
I read this book for the first time when I was 10 years old and reread it many, many times that year. It was my very favorite book. Unfortunately, I lost my original copy but the story has stayed with me for over 30 years. It is a wonderfully evocative story and a treasure for those who love history and mystery. I plan to find another copy soon and reread it. I have two daughters aged three and one, and I look forward to when they're old enough to read and enjoy the truly magical journey that this amazing book takes you on.

I found it again! and now my daughter can enjoy it!,

This review is from: Magic Elizabeth (Paperback)
I read this book when I was in 2nd or 3rd grade and have been searching for it ever since...kind of like looking for the magical doll herself, Elizabeth. Now, almost 30 years later, I am reading it with my 8-year-old daughter. She loves the story as much as I did...and her name is Emily just like Sally's friend. What an adventure to search through an old attic of trunks and dusty treasures of a century ago. Norma Kassirer brings your imagination right into each scene with her vivid descriptions. Read this book and enjoy it for generations!

Magic Revisited,
This review is from: Magic Elizabeth (Paperback)
I had to buy this book! I read this book as a child, but misplaced my copy decades ago! When I realized that I could find it on amazon, that it wasn't lost to me forever, and that I could have my daughter read it, I felt like I was being given a gift. There is nothing like a truly good book when you're a child, and this book is a timeless wonder. I bought one for my daughter, for her third grade teacher, and for her second grade teacher whose daughter is named Elizabeth. Now its magic will inform further generations.

This is a GREAT book!,
By Laura Carter (Haslett, MI United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Magic Elizabeth (Paperback)
As a kid, I read this book several times and I remember being just totally caught up in it - would the girl find Elizabeth?? I remember even dreaming about it. Now I have a daughter named Elizabeth and a few years ago I started looking for this book for her. Just for kicks, I tried the Amazon website and here it is, new, not used! My Elizabeth turns 6 in a few days and I am so excited that I will be able to read this to her and her little sister at bedtime. Magic Elizabeth is a magical book.

I have been looking for this book for years! I read it in 5th grade for a book report and have always wanted to read it again (even if it is a child's book). I am now 32 with 2 young boys. I can't wait to get this new reprint in the mail. Children will love it. I am going to be reading to my sons as part of our bedtime story reading. I am SOOOOO excited!

A book that stayed with me across the years,
By A Customer
This review is from: Magic Elizabeth (Paperback)
For years now I have been trying to remember the name of this book, so I could look for it again. I finally asked my sister, and she remembered! This book has something magical about it---it stayed in the back of my mind someplace for all those years. It's one of the few books I felt transported into when I read it. I know I was in that attic with Sally, and in her grandmother's house---I could see both places as clearly as the "real" world around me. Like Narnia, like Oz, like few others books and imaginary places, this author creates a very hauntingly real world.

An old favorite...,
By A Customer
This review is from: Magic Elizabeth (Paperback)
I first checked this book out from the library when I was about 10 years old. I fell in love with it, so much so that I asked my grandmother to make me an Elizabeth doll. Almost 25 years later, I still have the doll, and finally found an old paperback copy of the book at a used bookstore. I am so happy that it is back in print at Amazon, so more little girls will be able to read it and fall in love with it as I did.

I loved this as a little girl, bought one for my niece...,
By Metaldiva (Motor City, USA) - See all my reviews

bought one for myself and my sister. My first copy was from the Scholastic book sale at school in 1973. This is a very delightful and innocent mystery that captivated me as a child. This is a beautiful book to share with your daughters, nieces, granddaughters, etc. It is nice to sit back and remember when it was very cool not to be whiny, materialistic, over exposed and selfish..when it was wonderful to just to be a sweet, kind, helpful and respectable little lady.
Metaldiva Sez: Buy as many as you can for all the little girls in your family..great book about a tantalizing and gentle mystery.. |
