5.0 out of 5 stars Great Experience
Wow! Widescreen TV is a viewing bonus. The photography on this DVD is amazing. Angles from IMAX cameras mounted on the Blue Angels planes as they fly. This should have been named "The Magic of Flight with the Blue Angels". Unfortuately it is mostly about the Blue Angels, and not as much about flight in general and the magic of flying. I do think the Blue Angels are fun to watch, so this movie is still pretty good, but it did not do much for my love of flying. The reason I say this is because I was hoping for something...

Unfortunately, even with a widescreen TV, it's not the same experience as being in an IMAX theater with a 60' screen -- you don't get the feeling of being in the pilot's seat, like you do at IMAX. But a great experience nonetheless.

The other great thing from this IMAX film is the pilots truly convey their joy of flying. Blue Angels, stunt pilots & pilots taking off / landing on aircraft carriers; you can feel their passion for what they do.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a joy ride!, April 30, 2003

Sit back and enjoy this joy ride from the Wright brothers to the Blue Angels. The video footage is breathtaking. Of course, it isn't as good as on a real IMAX screen but you certainly can't do better on your home screen. Tom Selleck's narration is easy to listen to and soothing, in stark contrast to the excitement you'll feel watching the in-flight footage. This is entertaining, educational and just plain (plane!) fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow, makes you feel like you're flying!, December 1, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I got this for my 4 year old son's birthday last year because he has a fascination with air planes. Let's just say everyone in the house loves it when it comes on. We have a large screen TV and it makes you feel like you are really there! The sounds are colors are vivid. This is a wonderful dvd to pull out on those rainy/snowy days. No matter how many times we have watched it, it still holds our attention.

5.0 out of 5 stars OK, OK, So it hasn't actually been released, but...., June 1, 2000

I saw this IMAX film the first time at the National Museum of Naval Aviation in Pensacola, FL. (You'll notice in the opening credits that they helped with the film)I was entranced by the stunning video images and the "feeling" about flying that the scenery and Tom Selleck's narrative created. The score for the film is not "TOPGUN-esque" but rather a warm and inspiring score that reminded me of EVEREST. (Another Spectacular MacGillivray Freeman effort). Needless to say I saw it another 3 times while I was in flight school. To make it easy on prospective buyers I would offer this: If you don't fly or aren't particularly interested in aviation, but have ever been curious as to what makes people want to do it, this film should shed some light. If you fly or are an aviation buff...well, this film really hits the bullseye. Difficult to put in words just how but watch the film and you know what I mean

It's Amazing, it was the first Blue Angels DVD that I got (now I have 10) and I still think that it's the best one.
You are going to love this one.

I do think the Blue Angels are fun to watch, so this movie is still pretty good, but it did not do much for my love of flying. The reason I say this is because I was hoping for something that was more in touch with my love for flying, which is smaller aircraft, not fighter jets. Another good title for this movie would be "the Blue Angels and the Air Show". Unless this is what you want to see, look for another movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars An awesome look into the history of flight, carrier flight and the Blue Angels!, February 16, 2007
By
This review is from: The Magic of Flight (IMAX) (DVD)
This film is both a visual and an historical masterpiece!

MoF takes you through the history of flight; from the Wright Brothers' first flight, to harrier jump jets, F-18 aircraft carrier landings/takeoffs, and the Blue Angels' rigorous training program!

Along the way, you are introduced to the basic theory of flight with impressive computer animations that illustrate how we were able to manipulate the wings of a plane in comparison to that of birds to create lift and control it.

The flight footage is absolutely stunning with no visual-effects. This film takes full advantage of IMAX, bringing you up-close and personal to the action.

I cannot find one thing negative to say about this film. It is an absolute MUST for your collection!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good HD film!, April 25, 2006
This review is from: The Magic of Flight (IMAX) (DVD)
I got this to see what a WMVHD film looks like on an HDTV and it looks great. It's not very long but the footage of the Blue Angels is pretty cool. I would reccomend this to anyone who loves fast jets and to anyone who wants to showcase their HD setup.

I bought this package for my son who was just licensed as a private pilot, and we both enjoyed it very much. The WMVHD portion of the edition is absolutely stunning. I never realized that my computer was capable of such beautiful graphics. I recommend this product for anyone who has an interest in flight.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ive never seen a reaction like it..., April 22, 2003

This is used in a home theatre lounge at a retail outlet and used on a L.C.D projector. Certain chapters through the movie will draw crowds from all directions and leave them GOB-SMACKED and Dizzy for the next couple of hrs..I mean this disc is that good!...Im just so thrilled with my purchase, the sound is available in DTS and picture quality phenominal...Im constantly fighting off customers who want to purchase the my copy of the disc then and there.
