This Captain may be fallen cold and dead, but it's very much a live card with a powerful effect. Why? Spirits are a powerful tribe. Lingering souls, Dungeon Geists, even Strangleroot Geist love this card, and the hexproof clause is incredibly powerful. The aforementioned cards are also good even if you don't have a Drogskol Captain in play.

Unfortunately, this card is as flimsy as it is powerful. 2 toughness keels over in a stiff breeze, and believe you me, your opponents will make sure this fellow is deader than dead the turn after you play him. Yes, if you get two Drogskol Captains out, you've won, but that doesn't happen often even in a deck with Cackling Counterparts or other clones.

However, if you have powerful cards to play, then losing your Drogskol Captain isn't so terrible, because that's one less removal spell for your Dungeon Geists and Restoration Angels. A three mana card that dies to everything is still playable for this reason. The real restriction is the mana pool available. Drogskol Captain is best buddies with Lingering Souls, but right now there simply isn't support for a deck that plays white, black, and blue and is aggressive. Come Gatecrash in February, the Godless Shrine and Watery Grave lands will return - and then bugles will trill and flags will be flung for the Drogskol Captain's triumphant return to Standard proper.
