Product Description

Two Planeswalkers, one compassionate, one calculating, gave their all to save a world. ... The Planeswalker Koth, from the metal plane of Mirrodin, sought help when his world darkened. He traveled to Dominaria to enlist allies and met fellow Planeswalker Venser. ... When Venser recognized the threat to Koth's world was none other than Phyrexia, he knew that the only hope for Mirrodin was to find its maker. But that would mean forsaking its people in the meantime. ... Koth would rather die than turn his back on his fellow Mirrans. But Venser knew they would all die anyway if they failed to reach Karn, his former mentor and creator of Mirrodin. ... Two Planeswalkers, one goal, very different methods. Recreate the struggle to lead the way to Mirrodin's salvation.

I love Duel Decks.
Frank G.
It is great that it comes with two planeswalkers and their emblem cards and there are a few good cards in both decks.

This is a fun product, don't get me wrong.

I love the whole "Vs" line of decks, most of the decks go up in price, and are fun to play. Not tournament winners, but fun. Venser Vs. Koth is not one of the better "Vs" sets. The rares/uncommons are lower end, the themes are there, but not very cut throat. I do kinda like the decks, but this set may be the first of the Vs. series to not go up in value. Sorry for the long list, but Amazon wont let me space the 2 decks side by side.Read more ›

I have some duel decks, and this one is not the best of the bunch. I give it a high rating because it succeeds at what it sets out to do: the decks are balanced with each other and provide a fun match, regardless of how experienced the players are. Also, the planeswalkers alone are worth the price of admission if you're a collector, and the emblems will definitely become a must for completists. So, what's wrong with it? Well, the decks are simply weak. They are built reasonably well, you have a nice ratio of each type of card and some interesting strategies (lots of landfall for Koth, some nice use of bouncing for Venser), but the cards themselves are mostly very weak. That is to be expected at this price, bu when I say the decks are weak, I'm not comparing them to a deck you might have been building for years and spent some hundred dollars on; they are weak in comparison with other duel decks. For example, Phyrexia or Coalition can beat Venser or Koth easily.
If you want to play for fun, this is one of the cheapest duel decks out there nowadays. If you want the planeswalkers, this is a nice way to get them. You might be disappointed with the decks at first, but they are definitely worth their current price (I got it for under $12).

Works great to give a deck to play with friends that don't have card and still want to play and can be used to build other decks.

I love this dual deck!! The decks are both fun to play, but provide different strategies. Nice instant decks that can be tweaked into awesome decks. Personally I'm keeping them as they are because they seem pretty well matched (only played with them 3 times so far).

This is a fun product, don't get me wrong. But the decks are heavily favored power-wise in Koth's favor. The Koth deck can attack whenever no sweat, without ever worrying about a swing-back. The Venser deck, however, is a lot trickier. The deck has some tricks, but nothing much in the way of creatures. Duel Lands? Yeah, Venser gets that. But they all have immediate draw backs, other than coming in tapped. Quite a few involve returning a land back to your hand. Why? This deck is supposed to be playable. If you attack with the Venser deck, you kill your opponent there or die. I've never seen this deck win, watching other people play it or me playing it. If you swing, you kill or be killed. That's 20 points of life you have to do in a single turn. That's nearly impossible with the Koth deck being so aggressive you have to make bad blocks or lose. In short, Venser's deck is nearly unplayable. Koth's deck does what it's supposed to do and more. My advice: Get Sorin vs. Tibalt or Heroes vs. Monsters. Allegedly, those are way better.

I love Duel Decks. And I really like this one. They can provide an easy means for obtaining planeswalkers if they are featured and can provide some other really good cards too.
The alternate artwork on these 2 foil planeswalkers in particular is fantastic.
I do have a problem with how these are packaged though, which is why I removed a star. The front 2 cards are not sealed with the rest of the deck. They float in front of them. When mine arrived Koth was only half visible. I don't know if the package shifted during shipping but when I opened the box he was bent. They should include these in with the rest of the cards to keep them stable.
