5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!, August 12, 2002

The pieces on this CD are written demanding a very high level of technical proficiency (duh, I know). Ms Laskine is ABSOLUTELY up to the task! If not for listening to such superb skill in playing the harp, then just listening for listening's sake will prove to be very rewarding. Mind you, these songs are NOT going to put you to sleep, even the more patient works. The pieces are very dynamic with a lot of momentum to them. If there was only one lament, it would be that perhaps showcasing other players or more players (harp duets) may have brought a different flavor to the CD. I don't know, perhaps for the sake of exploration. A keeper, nonetheless.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magnificent, October 18, 2007

This magnificent group of serious harp works has a hidden surprise. To me, it sounds as if it were recorded from a position that gives the sound of the harp one hears if you are the person who is playing it, instead of the sound from the audience perspective. This makes this recording feel very personal.

Lily Laskine is such a role model, sensitive, nuanced, and expert playing combined with a varied pieces. The set of children's pieces are a real treat within this collection of legit repertoire. The picture of her in her advanced years, still happily playing, gives us all hope and perspective on a life living and loving music.

Non-musician freinds of mine have commented on how lovely the album is, so this is one that can be completely enojoid by the novice and the afficianado alike. So far, this is one of my top two fave albums of harp music. (The other is Marisa Robles' "Harp Concertos", harp with orchestra.) Thank you Linda, for this lovely gift!

5.0 out of 5 stars A standard for the solo harp afficionado., December 5, 2008

Although this was recorded years ago and L. Laskine was already past her prime, she still could be held to up to fine scrutiny without the veil of forgiveness often granted to seniors who still play by request.
The selections here include favorites and a few rarely performed works as well.
A 'must have' for a basic harp collection.
