5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful fantasy adventure for all ages! You'll love it!
If you like anime, fantasy or video-game RPGs, this series is for you! The music is wonderful, the animation is gorgeous and the characters are lots of fun! The plot has lots of surprising twists and turns to keep you hooked. This series also has some wonderful role-models for little girls (although some parts might be scary for the really young ones). 3.0 out of 5 stars I was kind of disappointed
The animation just wasn't the same as Clamp's. I had come to enjoy their elaborate eyes and curvy detailing, and the angular animation of the anime was sort of a let down. So was the musical score, which borders on cheesy video game music. Also, the story line is different and they changed some of the way things happen, partly to lengthen the series and to try to help it...

I've seen the whole series in Japanese and Spanish and it's one of my favorites - I'm thrilled it will finally be available in English. So hey, when's season 2 coming to video!? :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Anime, May 13, 2000
This review is from: Magic Knight Rayearth: Daybreak [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This series is just awesome, and the voices are good to boot! When I first bought it I thought it was going to be like Sailor Moon (Which I highly dislike), but the Clamp fan I am, I purcashed it. This tape is well worth your money with a whopping 4 episodes, complete with English versions of the songs. OH, and all of you people who say its stupid because of the Chibi characters are FOOLS! Thats the way it is in the original manga, which Im sure none of them have seen, and it has ben translated to the anime to add an even higher comedy level. So I guess you can go back to watching dub DBZ! (yuck)

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent addition to any anime collector's library, February 9, 2000
By
"animac" (Las Vegas, NV USA) - See all my reviews
As the first four episodes of a 20-episode collection, this tape is remarkably fast-paced. Rather than waste time with "monster of the day" episodes or drawing one battle out into a month of episodes, these say what they want, and are done with it.

Also, for those who have read the manga, this series follows along rather closely. There are some differences, but they contribute to the storyline instead of detracting. So good, in fact, that you can actually ignore it when the animation turns silly.

All in all, a must have for any and every anime fan there is.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST BUY!, January 17, 2000

This is a great show! The story is very much like an RPG and it was dubbed very well. They managed to balance the story out with both plot and action. Make sure you watch the tapes in order! If only they had done Sailor Moon as well as this...

5.0 out of 5 stars a classic shoujo anime!, September 28, 1999
By A Customer
If you like shoujo anime and also like fanasy, magic, sword fighting, and heroines, then this is the show for you! Magic Knight Rayearth is my favorite anime besides Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon. The plot is intricate but not too hard to follow. The characters are all very likable, and the evil guys all have a basis to their evil deeds ^_^ Very well written, I highly recommend this!

The animation just wasn't the same as Clamp's. I had come to enjoy their elaborate eyes and curvy detailing, and the angular animation of the anime was sort of a let down. So was the musical score, which borders on cheesy video game music. Also, the story line is different and they changed some of the way things happen, partly to lengthen the series and to try to help it move a bit smoother according to their telling of it. Don't get me wrong, I love the anime; but it's not as good as it could be. It's worth checking out, though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Daybreak is a good start!, July 7, 2000
I am very pleased with this video. Magic Knight Rayearth is an fascinating movie with good character design and an intruiging plot to top it all off. I mean the characters don't know everything from the beginning, they actually have to learn something. The music earns it some points as well. The opening and ending themes are good to wake up to, almost as energetic as the knights of Ramune opening. Oh, and yes, later in the series you find out that Mokona is not totally pointless! The main characters are: Hikaru-is the easily excited fire user of the group, Umi-the water wielding loyal friend to Hikaru and fuu, Fuu-the tactician of the group she uses wind as her ally, Clef-master mage and great help to the girls, Presea-chief artisan of Cephiro she was keeping Mokona until the knights arrived to get weapons, Mokona-somewhat annoying mix between a pikachu and Ryo-ohki, Ferio-a young man the girls found in the forest of Silence he's a bit of a scoundrel and seems to have a bit of a crush on fuu, Zagato-Princess Emeraudes captor, Princess Emeraude- her name is self explainatory the only things she seems to have said so far involve the words save and help, Innova-Zagato's pet literally, Alcyone-the evil sorceress who is in love with Zagato.

5.0 out of 5 stars DONT FOLLOW MONKONA!, December 8, 1999
By
"majinrei" (Tampa, Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Magic Knight Rayearth: Daybreak [VHS] (VHS Tape)
The starts off kind of the way of most animes start, princess in need of help, 3 teens from earth are summond and they gain magic powers...but in a way, it's kind of different. The 3 girls (red head Hikaru Shido, blue hair Umi Ryuuzaki, Blondie Fuu Hojoji ) follow around a little pikachu look alike named mokona with a one word vocabulary...PU! This little guy is supposed to be leading the girls to find the Princess Emeraude...but it just seems to be leading them to more monsters...none the less the movie is very well animated, the dubbing is good, and I love how the turn chibi (LITTLE) almosy every 5 seconds!
