Great Guide for a Digital Rebel Owner,
By Judy Segal (Portland, ME) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Magic Lantern Guides: Canon EOS Digital Rebel EOS 300 D (A Lark Photography Book) (Paperback)
I just bought my first digital SLR, the Digital Rebel, and I am an enthusiastic amateur. I found this book seemed to be written for me, the photographer, and not the long-time digital pro. It gave me far more than the manual did, with a lot of really helpful photography tips beyond the camera basics. The author seems to really know the camera as he does more than simply report on the features but also comments on them to make them easier for people like me to use them.

Info the Manual Does Not Have,
By Adam Samuelson (Minneapolis, MN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Magic Lantern Guides: Canon EOS Digital Rebel EOS 300 D (A Lark Photography Book) (Paperback)
I don't understand why people can be so arrogant about books they don't like. I thought this was a tremendous help for me. It illustrates so much that the manual covers in such a basic way. There is stuff in here that evidently Canon doesn't even know because it is not in the manual, such as how to make the review image stay on screen regardless of the time set for review. This book saved me a lot of time in getting to know this camera and is well worth its low price. Plus it gives a lot of great how-to advice that I can't imagine any manual including.

Very Helpful,
By Walter Kennerley (Madison, WI) - See all my reviews

I recently sold my Rebel 2000 camera and bought the Digital Rebel. Since the Magic Lantern for the 2000 was so helpful, I ordered this book and I am glad I did! This book was even better than the book on my old camera. It helped me figure out things about using a digital camera that I just didn't understand at all, like resolution, file types, what is best for what use, etc. The camera's instruction book did not explain these things in ways that I could get a grasp of and this book did a great job. I would highly recommend this to anyone from both the perspective of understanding the digital side to learning all about camera controls. It is well worth the money because it will add to your enjoyment of the camera

The true manual for the EOS 300D / Rebel,
By
This review is from: Magic Lantern Guides: Canon EOS Digital Rebel EOS 300 D (A Lark Photography Book) (Paperback)
The manual that accompanies the camera while showing you the basics of the unit does a poor job of telling you what can be done. This book is an essential first step to understanding how to use the advanced features (creative zones) of the 300D. I'd recommend that you look into books on composition, white balance, color and other photographic techniques in addition though to master the camera.

Great guide,

I disagree with some reviews on this site. This guide was much better than the instruction book that I got with the camera. Why dis a guide because it doesn't mention microdrives when most folks don't recommend them--they are fragile, produce heat, and with the price of memory dropping, not such a great buy. I found this guide helpful and I have owned several digital cameras.

Far more accessibly presented than the actual product manual, but I was certainly left wanting more technical and procedural detail. You'll learn more and more easily than you would with the OEM manual alone: it also makes a good field guide because the index is direct and comprehensive, so it won't slow you down. The photos the author includes as creative examples are, for the most part, of little use and, more than occasionally, a bit weird.

This book really helped me figure out how to use this camera. If I hadn't bought this book it would have been a much greater challenge.

Photography Class Suggested Reading,
By Nancy Lou (Oregon) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Magic Lantern Guides: Canon EOS Digital Rebel EOS 300 D (A Lark Photography Book) (Paperback)
Much more detailed than the book that came with the camera. Has helpful hints and is easier to understand. I took a photography class recently, and the instructor suggested I get this book to better understand my camera. He was right.

Personally I think it's a great book. I learned some things that I didn't know before about my camera. With that in mind, it served me well.
If you're a beginner, this book will walk you along. |
