1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth buying this guide!, July 15, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Magic Lantern Guides: Nikon D2X (Paperback)
I own the Nikon D2X camera, and was looking for a book that would better explain the variety of controls and settings than the camera's manual. Well, this Magic Lantern Guide was a huge disappointment in this respect.

The original English manual supplied by Nikon, has 264 pages in which the controls are identified as to what they are and about their functions. A prior knowledge of photographic techniques and terms are quite mandatory to understand all the options and functions, as the manual does not explain all these properly. To be fair to Nikon, the D2X is not a beginners point and shut camera, but regardless when someone buys a $4000+ camera (body alone), a bit more explanations to some of the complex features would be welcome. Thus, with this hope in mind, I purchased the Magic Lantern Guide.

The guide is nothing more than a slightly revised owner's manual with a few black and white illustrations added in basically a 240 page reprint of Nikon's original was 264 pages, in a slightly larger format of 5" w x 7.5"h vs. Nikon's 4.75"w x 6.5"h. The functions of the controls are not explained in enough detail with examples of their settings that an average photographer like myself, who wants to use a great camera for general photography, would find to his/her advantage. Save yourself $19.99 + s/h, and just read the supplied owner's manual and learn by trial and error.

A useless book so full of typos and editorial blunders that it appears not to have been edited at all. Save your money and just read the manual that came with your D2X.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review of Nikon D2x Manual, February 14, 2010

This review is from: Magic Lantern Guides: Nikon D2X (Paperback)
The official manual for the Nikon camera D2x gives the straight forward facts. But this Magic Lantern Guide for this camera (by Kevin Spreekeester) gives a more personal approach to the use of the D2x camera. The author often gives his personal settings and uses of the camera. Now, with these personal insights, the camera beconmes more usable in my mind. With the two (the offical manual and this Guide) I feel more at easy in using the Nikon camera D2x.
