Peter Burian is a Toronto-based freelance stock photographer specializing in outdoor, travel, nature and active lifestyle images as well as photo/text packages. He markets his images through peterkburian.com and through Corbis, Alamy and The Stock Connection.

He is a Contributing Editor with several magazines, writing illustrated test reports of photo equipment and articles on photo technique for HERE'S HOW, Australian Photography, PHOTO LIFE & PHOTO SOLUTION, and Marketnews. (In the past he contributed to Shutterbug for 13 years, and was Editor of Shutterbug's Outdoor & Nature Photography magazine).

Peter K. Burian is also an instructor with BetterPhoto.com, teaching two on-line courses re: digital photography (equipment and techniques).

Co-author of the National Geographic Photography Field Guide, he has written many Magic Lantern Guide books: Sony and Pentax DSLRs & the Powershot G12. He is currently co-authoring David Busch's Guide to the Nikon Coolpix P7100, to be published in early 2012.

I bought Peter Burian's A 900 Guide to help me with getting the most out of my new Sony A 850 as the 2 cameras are almost identical except for a few features.

If, like me, you try to avoid reading the manufacturer's instruction manuals that come with the camera, you will certainly get a lot out of the book. it's well written, gets straight to the point and covers all the important processes that a user will want to know about.

You'll notice that I used the word processes, not features . This is the reason why I do not read manufacturer's instruction manuals - they tell you all about the functions and features of the camera, but do not tell you what you really want to know - how to use these features to do something that will result in a good picture.

A nice feature is his coverage of the pros and cons of various Sony Alpha lenses availablle for use on this full frame camera .

Upon purchase of my SONYa900 camera I also ordered the Magic Lantern Guide for the a900 written by Peter K Burian. I have found the book not only helpful but critical in pushing my learning curve forward. It is an easy read and full of the detail and information that a serious photographer wants and needs.
I highly recommend the book.

Very thorough and comprehensive guide to the Sony DSLR A900. It is well organized and has plenty of illustrations. I found it best to have my camera handy and try the different controls as I read along. The index is very good also and I can quickly find details about the many features the camera has. I plan on getting a magic lantirn guide for each of my cameras,
