A brilliant idea for a book, "Magic in Medieval Manuscripts" by Sophie Page gives us fascinating insight into the diverse mysterious forms of magic practiced in Europe during the Middle Ages and analyses the role or significance of magic in the medieval world. The magnificent art illustrations from the British Library's collections perfectly exemplify the readable text content. The book is divided into five chapters and an introduction.

Contents:

Introduction

The Medieval Magician

Natural Magic

The Power of the Image

The Magical Universe

Necromancy and Sorcery

This is my first book on the subject of magic and I love it. All those interested in art and history I think will love it too. Check it out :)

I do illuminated manuscripts and calligraphy as a hobby, so I was thrilled to stumble on this interesting book that's such a departure from the usual Psalms and missals. The printing and paper are lovely and vivid. The content is fascinating - well-written, engaging, and very accessible. Lots to learn about how and why the church recorded instances of magic and sorcery, see how the practitioners are portrayed, and get a view on the ongoing mix of fascination and fear with the occult through history. If you are a lover of manuscripts, odd bits of Medieval history, or one who practices the Craft, I think you'll find it very interesting.
