This movie is AWFUL. Seriously, just bad. I saw it in the theater AND I pre-ordered the DVD/BluRay/Ultraviolet combo. So why would I want to own a movie I already knew was bad? Can you say Channing Tatum bumping and grinding on the dance floor? Channing Tatum is at his luscious best in this film as far as his dancing and body, but it's like he totally forgot how to act at all (not that he was Oscar material before this anyway). The dancing in this movie is excellent and SO.HOT. and Matthew McConaughey is awesome when he's used for comic relief (when it gets serious even the great McConaughey is pretty bad). The plot and even most of the acting in this movie is just downright pitiful.

Would I own the movie? YEP, I DO. Would I watch the movie more than once? Yep, I have. Would I say it's cinematic magic worthy of an Oscar? NO WAY. Do I recommend this movie to pretty much all women who might kind of like the look of Channing Tatum? Absolutely. Do I recommend this movie if you are looking for a decent plot and good acting? No, no, I don't, please stay far away from this movie if that is what you are looking for!

The dancing and serious babe factor of this movie gets 10 stars, everything else gets -7...makes this one an even 3 stars for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eye Charms galore September 17, 2012

I first saw this movie trailer when I saw Haywire. I did not really know who Channing Tatum was(dumb me), let alone he was in Haywire. I thought a male stripper movie. I have seen my share of male strippers and if it was going to be like watching the Chippendales, I thought how boring. Well it came out and it was going strong at the theater in July so what the hell, I went and saw it. All I can say is WOW it was raining men and and hot bods and man candy. Definitely not boring. Channing Tatum can definitely move and the dance in the red thong is Oh My God. We women finally get something decent to look at, after all the years of enduring movies where chicks get naked and the guys are drooling. So the guys get to suck it up. Seeing Channing Tatum's naked rear-end and just about everything else, makes your mouth drop open. He is drop dead gorgeous and sexy as hell and the rest are not bad on the eyes either. Joe Mangianello from True Blood is holy crap hot too. It was a pretty decent story too, not just stripping. I love the strip to KISS's Dr. Love. That was a topper for me. I highly recommend this movie to every red-blooded female out there. When Channing Tatum goes dressed as a cop to strip for the college girls it makes you want to do bad things to get arrested by him. I don't know why anybody should be surprised that this movie has done well, any woman with working eyes has seen it and probably more than once. It is still in the theaters around my home town as this is written. If it was just a dumb stripper movie, in my opinion, it would have been gone by July 1st, not spend 3 months in the theater. I can hardly wait for the sequel.

I received my DVD version of "Magic Mike" today from Amazon.com. It does not contain the additional footage (dance sequences by Joe Manganiello and Matt Bomer.) I was told today by someone that only the Blue Ray combo pac version has this. THIS IS NOT CLEAR IN ANY OF THE PRODUCT DESCRIPTIONS PUT OUT BY AMAZON.COM. Shame on you Amazon, for deliberately misleading the public. Since I saw the film, I would not have purchased this DVD, but wanted to see the dance footage that Soderberg did not include in the film. I don't own a BLU RAY DVD player, by the way and can't afford one. I'm certainly disappointed that the Distribution Company distributed this product in this way.

4.0 out of 5 stars Didn't expect to like it October 18, 2012

You have women screaming for you every night; you make great money, and have the time of your life every night. But there is a clock on your career and it's running out. What do you do?

Mike Lane (played by Channing Tatum) is a part-time roof tiler, aspiring furniture designer, and auto customizer. While working a roofing job, he meets Adam (played by Alex Pettyfer). Adam lost a football scholarship after fighting with his coach and was forced to move in with his sister Brooke (played by Cody Horn). Then, at the end of his first day as a roofer, his boss fires him for taking too many sodas from the company cooler. On top of that, Adam (Pettyfer) can't get his car started and so Mike gives him a ride home. In return, Mike asks Adam for a favor and Adam learns how Mike spends his evenings. By day, he works construction and by night he is Magic Mike, a male exotic dancer at Xquisite. Other dancers at Xquisite include Ken (played by Matt Bomer), Tarzan (played by Kevin Nash), Tito (played by Adam Rodriguez), and Richie (played by Joe Manganiello). Shocked at first, Adam (Pettyfer) begins working at Xquisite after being hired by the manager Dallas (played by Matthew McConaughey). During this time, Mike applies for a loan to start his furniture business, is rejected, and maintains a friendship with benefits with a fellow dancer named Joanna (played by Olivia Munn). Meanwhile, Brooke (Horn) worries about her brother's descent into a life filled with drugs, booze, and one-night stands.

Now, as a man, it's clear I am not part of this film's target demographic. Also, Horn and Pettyfer are almost completely unknown to me.
