Really great movie. For my wife. She rented this for 24 hours and watched it three (that's 3) times. For myself, I spent the time stripping. Stripping the paint off of my shed and repainting it. I also had to scoop up after the dog. A good time had by all.

When stripping down 2012's MagicMike, the Soderbergh-ness of it is really what stands out...at least for those who weren't just there to see glistening male gods flex their ab muscles. It was in every sense a Steven Soderbergh film, and not completely unlike his prior effort The Girlfriend Experience, in that it explored the hopes, dreams, and troubles of people in a generally-maligned sex industry. That there were larger concerns, such as the failing economy, gave the film an unexpected richness. Truth be told, the serious stuff didn't totally jibe with the frat boy pack mentality of the characters, and it always seemed like there was a lighter film peeking through around the edges. Magic Mike XXL is that movie; it shunts aside most of the heavy concerns about the future in favor of an in-the-moment quest for fun, sex, money, and fame.

And yes, there are plenty of peaking pecs and gyrating hips for those who are looking for it, and actually in this case these scenes are far more indulgent. They are rarer but definitely longer, beginning with star Channing Tatum's woodshed pop 'n lock performance to Ginuwine's "Pony" that's sure to set off sparks (literally). Tatum, who has based the film and the title character on his personal experiences, doesn't look or move like he's aged a day in years, and he's especially energetic in this role. Just as Mike is feeling drawn back to the glory of his dancing career, Tatum also seems energized by recalling these old memories. Magic Mike XXL is essentially a road trip movie, in which Mike is convinced by his retiring buddies to go on one final bash down in Myrtle Beach, a hedonistic journey in which they can go out in a blaze of glory.

That's not to say Mike's past is completely punted to the side, at least not at first.

I can't wait for the DVD to come out. This movie was AWESOME!!! I saw it on opening day. The plot was not very good but let's be honest - I didn't watch it for the plot. I watched it for the fellas, and they most certainly did not disappoint! This one was better than the first one by far!!

Can I just say? What I found so incredibly HOT was the strength, yet smoothness with which Channing moved. It's like he's a piece of iron that glides and switches position but never touches the floor. He moves as gracefully as a ballerina. In reality, most men, just reaching for the light will accidentally plant a hay-maker on your cheek. Or they try to change positions and accidentally pin your hair down with their elbow. I think the only "sex talk" I've ever heard is "Oh! Sorry baby! You alright?"

Not Channing. Holy....

Three years after leaving the world of male striptease behind to start his own company, Michael "Magic Mike" Lane (Channing Tatum) finds himself a tad bored and frustrated by mainstream life. His girlfriend (Cody Horn, unfortunately not featured here in any capacity) left him after a proposal gone awry, and his entrepreneurial spirit has run headlong into day-to-day hardship and tedium. For a change of pace, he reunites his former Kings of Tampa co-stars (Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Kevin Nash, and Adam Rodriguez) on a summertime road trip to Myrtle Beach; their leader and Faustian father figure Dallas (Matthew McConaughey, understandably absent) has emigrated to Macao, and they plan to give an epic final performance at an exotic-dance convention before moving on.

This is a film almost entirely devoid of external conflict or tension: the Kings of Tampa may harbor slight resentment toward the title character for his abrupt exit, but any negativity is rapidly pacified, and the climactic destination, the strip convention, does not seem to be a championship-game type of competition, but rather a showcase where everyone wins, particularly the female crowd. Instead, the focus is on athleticism, camaraderie, intimate moments of slice-of-life road-trip whimsy, and a general tendency toward the uplifting and the uptempo (with, of course, a nocturnal twist). The impact therefore is not as significant as the first film's, which functioned as a cautionary drama and a contemporary economic parable delivered via the ecstasy and camp of a dance film, but the sequel is still a worthy and distinctive ride.

The cast instantly conjure an authentic and electrifying chemistry. The dance sequences are a grandly choreographed blend of the creative, the erotic, and the madcap.

For the type of movie this was meant to be, I found it thoroughly entertaining. I would categorize this as an eye candy movie because of all the hot men in this one film, and the routines were pretty good. I like it enough to own it :P

Have to say this is Waayyyyyy Better than the first one. I did not care much for the first movie. This time though: It was light-hearted, and funny with lots of comedic moments, as well as some sexy and creative dance routines. Went with sisters, mom, and then went again with husband. Jada Pinkett Smith was great as the emcee, showing that all women deserve to be treated as beautiful Queens. Joe Manganiello (my fave of the bunch of guys - Alcide the werewolf from True Blood, also got a funny vampire dig at a Twilight themed routine) had a funny routine at the gas station. Andie McDowell and her older women/mom group was a lot of fun. Then a super-sexy routine later when he found his new act. It was a "male entertainer" last ride-road trip from Tampa to a stripper convention in Myrtle Beach with a few fun stops along the way. Also featuring Gabriel Iglesias, Elizabeth Banks, Matt Bomer, Kevin Nash, Twitch from So You Think You can Dance, and Michael Strahan as well. Twitch and Channing Tatum's routine at the end was fun and sexy also. Great choreography. It was just a lot of fun for a girls night out. But can also be watched with your significant other. Would totally buy this DVD later when it comes out. When I bought my tickets at the theater, there was another couple buying tickets to another movie. The guy said I bet you would rather go with them. LOL
