Not at all what I expected. Would NOT have purchase had I realized it was 3 inches by 4!
You also have to cut out the 'film' from the first page and then hold over the pages to follow. Too much $.
I am stuck with two...maybe a stocking stuffer.

This book's quite amusing :) I had a day of fun with it (including showing it to friends). But since then, it has been staying on my shelf untouched.

Okay, is it just me? Am I missing something? I saw this book being demonstrated on YouTube and thought it would be a great gift for my niece, so I looked it up on Amazon. As far as I can tell from this and other sites, the book is out of print and not available new, and quite a few people have it listed on various sites for anywhere between nine hundred dollars and two thousand dollars! What's up with that? Can someone please explain? I get that it's out of print, ok, but is ANYONE possibly selling these used books at those prices? If so, apparently we've pulled right out of the recession without me knowing about it! I mean, come on, it seems like a cute, fun book that would be amusing and entertaining for a short while, but it's not the holy grail!
If anyone could please shed some light on where I could get a copy of this book at a reasonable price, I'd greatly appreciate knowing about it. Thanks very much in advance.

Yes, I was surprised at the small size of this book when I received it, but it is still a very cool book. The book includes a tear-out page of clear plastic with an evenly spaced series of parallel black lines; when you slide this tear-out page over the images in the book, it creates an amazing optical illusion of movement. When sliding the tear-out page, be careful to keep the bottom of the tear-out page parallel to the bottom of the page with the image; if the tear-out page is rotated while sliding, it reduces the optical illusion; this may be difficult for young children.

This method of creating the optical illusion of movement has been known for a long time, but to the best of my knowledge, this 2007 book is the first book in the past 50 years to use this type optical illusion. Since then, a bunch of "scanimation" and "animotion" books have been released, and these books have the page with parallel lines on each page, and it automatically slides and creates the illusion of motion when the book is opened.

I can see this book being desirable by a collector of movable books. If you are buying books for children, you will probably be much happier with the "scanimation" and "animotion" books.

If you're one of those who loves the zoetrope at the local museum, this book makes you feel like you took a piece of it home with you! My whole family enjoyed it. I think it will make a great birthday present for some of our young friends.

This is a great little book. I have a son with Autism and I bought this book hoping that it would stimulate his mind. He loved it. He tried to grab the images from the pages with his hand. hehe My daughter who is 11 also loved this book. It is very very cool. Like a portable zoetrope. :D

I bought this book for my son (6 years old) and he like it so much. good present to motive his imagination.

I love this book for being simple and yet smart enough to bring up an animation from static images. Low price also makes it very affordable. Could be a great gift to one who likes optical illusions.

A fascinating concept. The illusion is very real and deceptively simple. This book does a good job of presenting a very clever idea. Everybody who sees it is flabbergasted.

this is the coolest book i've ever seen. it should entertain kids that come to visit for a long time...and you know how hard that can be...
