5.0 out of 5 stars Simple but effective, October 29, 2000
This review is from: The Magic of Origami (Paperback)
This book is one of the early books on origami and written by 2 American legends who lead origami in USA and started the rise in origami and the popularity origami currently enjoy.

This book contains a lot of simple models, easily folded by beginners. The models folded has a lot of practical applications. In general, if you use the correct colours in folding the model, you can get a really effective and eye catching model.

There is section on Christmas decorations which I use even today. Use bright shiny paper and hang up the origami decorations on your Christmas tree and listen to the "oohs" and "aahs" of kids as they admire the decorations. The decorations come in many shapes and often require more than a piece of paper to fold. This is a blessing since this allows you to control the colour of the model. They are usually very easy to fold although assembling it could present a challenge to begineers.

An excellent book for begineers keen to fold their own decorations.

4.0 out of 5 stars Why I liked the book, September 19, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Magic of Origami (Paperback)
As a person with some origami experience spread over years, I was very glad to find details on how to understand the graphics which are part of the diagrams. Arrows pointing this way or that, bent or not, can be confusing. In addition, there is a origami dictionary so that you understand the meanings of the words used in the instructions. This book was published in the seventies' and should be re-printed for people today. It took me over a month to decide to chance purchasing it, and I am glad I did. There are many diagrams set in sequence detailing the words used in saying how to fold something.

Not all books explain the details of crafts of other cultures as well as this one does. I do wish that it had more historical information on origami as it developed over centuries. Such information helps others enjoy the new experience they learn. It also brings an understanding of how all peoples are related to one another, over distance or centuries of time.

It has a whole chapter on Christmas ornament paper folding in this book. This helped me decide to purchase it. Examples of these creations should be pictured in color, which I hope a re-print will do. Enjoyment of origami creations in one color or multiple colors sparks creativity. Enjoying what you create out of simple paper should provide more people with the impetus to try their hand at creating.
