A great source for beginners,
By Hector Miranda (Puerto Rico) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Magic Power of Witchcraft (Paperback)
I read this book for the first time when I was 13, almost 10 years ago. It really helped me in the beginning of my journey as an ocultist. Today, I am not friendly with the WICCA philosophy, but I have to make an exception on this book. It is a deep but steady school of magic (white magic), and it is also a great book for someone seriously interested in the matter, because it is like a manual, and the book itself is an encyclopedia in terms of the quantity of information on magic and rituals.I still love it today!

The best beginners book out there for witches!,
By
This review is from: The Magic Power of Witchcraft (Paperback)
I purchased this book when I first began exploring the craft over 36 years ago, and have never doubted anything in it. It has realistic advice that I suggest every witch or pagan have in the library. I have read negative reviews about these folks and fail to see what their problems are. Are they envious? Do they fear the truth? Have they actually read the book from cover to cover and understood it? I plan on letting my grandchildren use this book for their first text when they begin in the craft. Not many authors can say that! I recommend this for all who wish to really learn something!

The Real Craft Without New Age Babble,
By Saxon (Sandpoint, Idaho) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Magic Power of Witchcraft (Paperback)
This book is the one that began my lifelong study of magick and my native Northern European religious and cultual heritage. I first read it 25 years ago and still re-read it from time to time to return myself to the essential attitude of a Witch. This book is worded in a bit of a corny fashion, but that was the style of the time for almost all books on occult subjects. It is simple and straight forward real Witchcraft, untainted with the New Age garbage that permeates most books on the Craft these days. Witchcraft was, and is, to the very few who actually practace it in its historic context, a CRAFT, not a religion. This book is the perfect first book on the Craft in a halfway proper context. The Frosts are true Masters of the traditions, as well as several non-European magickal practaces; they know their stuff. If you are tired of Light Weenie wannabe Witches who practace Hinduism with a pointed hat, this is a good start. I would reccomend this book above 99% of all the other beginner's books out there, and above most of the books on the Craft period.

one of the few good books on witchcraft,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Magic Power of Witchcraft (Paperback)
I bought this book some time ago and it is a very good book. The Frosts have written a book with substance. Unfortunately, this cannot be said of the majority of books on wicca. This book gets to the nitty gritty of witchcraft and does not pull punches. It tells things as they are. The authors show how to access cosmic power , how to work spells , astral travel and gain all the knowledge you wish from spiritual guides among other intresting topics. This is what wicca is all about. I cannot say this of other books on wicca. This book is one of the few classics in witchcraft. Excellent book.

A great book for the beginner,
By "mataramuirlynn" (Nova Scotia, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Magic Power of Witchcraft (Paperback)
I purchased the book from the authors with my alowance when i was young and looking for my religion when i was younger. Not only did i find what i was searching for, but it helped me in finding my path in life. It is clear and concise for those who don't really know what magic is about. If it was still in print I would recommend it as a must have for any magical library for all beginners who are searching for where to begin.

No, It's Not Fluffy-Bunny-Craft,

This review is from: The Magic Power of Witchcraft (Paperback)
Most of the people who complain about this book and it's "updated" version seem to be bothered by the "ethics" or "morality" or lack of info on the religious aspects of Wicca. Well, simply put, this book is about the "Magic Power" of "Witchcraft" (gee, you would think more people would have caught on to that fact) and how to use Witchcraft to improve your life and obtain the things you want in this world. Of course there will always be those who believe that taking care of oneself (being "selfish") or using magic to get ahead in the world (as opposed to using it to try to end world hunger and war) is immoral, unethical, and just plain bad (I wonder if these folks are really closet Christians). In reality, this book just tells it like it is, plain, simple and to the point. It tells the student exactly what to do and how to do it to improve their lives and achieve success and happiness. If your interest is in developing and using such powers as astral travel, telepathy, recharging your cosmic energy, being able to consult the spirits of the deceased, and a great deal more besides, then this book is a must have. I've studied everything from the Magick of Aleister Crowley, to the Golden Dawn and Franz Bardon's Hermetics, all of these are excellent in their own way but the Frosts' Witchcraft has proven to be the most practical and useful of anything I've yet seen. This is a very good book and deserves serious consideration by all practitioners of the occult.

I bought this book when it first came out in the 70's, I was almost 10. It was in an ad in the back of a gossip mag and I actually got all my money with change taped to paper, and bought it. It changed my life! I let someone borrow the book and they never gave it back. Nothing compares to the Frost's writings! I was overjuyed when I ordered this book and it's in perefect condition. I love it.

. . .,
By Admittedly, some of their suggestions are good - you CAN feel your own energy by doing the "hand over palm" motion and their "star" position IS a very good position in which to stand to pull in energy from the earth OR the sky. However, a lot of this seems to be pure bunkum, written for credulous people in the mid 70s who were seeking something new. Not to be taken seriously by the serious practitioner of witchcraft; however, utilizing their "spells" for visualization just might work, as it is well known that you tend to create your own reality. Read it for the information and entertainment value if nothing else!

useful but not for a beginner,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Magic Power of Witchcraft (Paperback)
This book contained much useful information, but it had nothing to do with wicca and the craft. It was put out by the academy and is more a brochure inorder to get people to take correspondencse courses then an instructional manual. It has a few instructions for a few things and is cryptic and sketchy. It alludes to spells and then never talks about them, like the Kundalini, and the Cross not my path spell, and the hex. It's written like an advertisment iin very user friendly language to the point of being goofy. It has some interesting comments on psionics and mystism, and some good hints at techniques for fasination (mind bending) and telepathy. It ignores the religion and morality behind the craft, but contains many useful ideas often skipped over or alluded to in other books. It boasts a decisivness which it doesn't have. It has some good skills to learn and some good exercises in telepathy and psychokinesis, but does not go indepth enough on anyone thing. It suggests some activities that some people may find immoral but that's between you and your gods. The description of space purification is overly ritualistic, while other descriptions are overly simplictic. Overall the book is nice to add to your collection although most people ignore it. It's a quick paced read and is interesting at times. However don't base any major life changes on it.

Dianetics for Wiccans,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Magic Power of Witchcraft (Paperback)
Although the feel-good energy of the writing style often brings to mind a new-age self-help book from the mid eighties, this is a wonderful book for beginners. It's not bad for more advanced practitioners to have on hand, either - both because of the real-world advice that is given (some of which no longer applies, some of which is more timely than ever). The Frost couple use Witch Power as a catch-all description for the art of winning friends and influencing people - much of the advice is applied psychology, rather than spells and incantations - and I have never encountered better advice for new students of the craft. There is, of course, plenty of information in the spells and incantations category - most of it simple and easy to understand. I heartily recommend this book as a basic occult primer. |
