5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Collection of Short Stories, July 13, 2006
This review is from: Magic For Sale (Paperback)
I've had the book for seven years now, and whenever I am not reading something else, I am reading this. Its 15 stories all dabble in the science fiction and fantasy, but each are so well written that even if you're not a SF and F fan, are highly enjoyable. While they each are more focused on different styles ("The Bazaar of the Bizarre" and "The Crystal Egg" are pure SF & F, "Junk Shop" and "As Is" focus more on the humor, and "Touchstone" and "The Cheese Stands Alone" are concerned with drama) they each have the same air of charm and intrigue.

And the authors featured aren't no-name writers. H.G. Wells and Ray Bradbury are the biggest names, but most of the authors were also creators and writers for hit television series.

The only problem one might find are the little intros that precede each story. While Avram Davidson is a fine writer, is in fact one of the authors featured in the book, he can tend to use words that are not only a bit big and confusing, but outdated. His humor certainly makes up for it, but is using words really such a bad thing? Besdies, you can always skip the intros.

The tone of the book is captivating and the subject is very intriguing. "Magic for Sale" is a great book to have around the house when you want to delve into a rich story for an hour or two.
