Editorial Reviews

In HOLIDAY SPECIAL, it's the last day of school before the winter holidays and Wanda plans to see the Nutcracker ballet. But during a trip to Murph's (Dolly Parton) recycling plant, the toy soldier she needs to get into the theater accidently becomes a plastic pellet! The DVD includes two additional magical adventures to celebrate the season: In ALL DRIED UP, the always-caring Phoebe goes on a crusade to save the animals and plants of the desert -- and discovers how well they take care of themselves! In IN THE RAINFOREST, it's Earth Day and the kids discover how cocoa pods, mud puddles, and bugs all play a part in the wondrous web of life.

I have no complaints about the collection itself. As always Magic School Bus is great. My complaint is with the lack of details of what the episodes are. I bought the MSB Collection also because is was offered as a savings if you buy the two together. And having more MSB episodes is great. The only thing is the two collections are identical except in the packaging and price. I hate doing the job for Amazon but I don't want anyone else making the same mistake as I did. Both the collections contain, Space Adventures, Creepy,Crawly Fun, Holiday Special.

i am a big fan of MSB and was extremely disappointed when i bought "the three pack" along with "the collection", as suggested by amazon. they are the same. more product information would have been great but to be given bad advice was deceiving and discouraging.

So, I LOVE The Magic School Bus and find that when I need to do some work around the house I can leave my 5 year old in the capable hands of Ms. Frizzle. :) That being said; I too had to wait until they arrived to make sure that I didn't double up on episodes. So here is the list;

1. Holiday Special
2. All Dried Up
3. In The Rainforest
4. Inside The Haunted House
5. Going Batty
6. Spins A Web
7.Gets Lost In Space
8. Out Of This World
9. Taking Flight

This has been great for us (especially on Saturdays) when there are sooooo many commercials that take away from the story line. It's a great addition to your collection...or as have found out; a great start to a collection. :)

1. Holiday Special (Recycling) 2. All Dried Up (Desert) 3. In The Rainforest. We love the DVD, but we paid $20 for it at Target. The holiday segment on recycling is great. Dolly Parton plays the role of Murphy (the Frizz's cousin and head of a recycling plant) and she actually sings. It's really good, and I am lending it to my kid's classes to watch. I recommend it...just don't overpay.

This volume of Magic School Bus contains 3 different stories: Holiday Special, Rainforest, and All Dried Up.

The Holiday Special is all about the importance of recycling. At one point, for example, the kids are shown how much of the Bus is from recycled products; glass and aluminum, etc.

The Rainforest story hinges around cocoa and coca trees-- something I think most kids can relate to. The kids and Ms. Frizzle head off to rainforest when they can't make hot cocoa to find up "what's up". A good explanation of the interrelationship of creatures and plants (ecology) follows.

All dried up is about the desert and how although the desert environment is hostile and difficult that there are animals and plants that live there because of their adaptations.

Though these tales are for older kids, I have been showing them to my 4 year old. She probably misses the fine nuances, but she has definitely gotten the major themes and it gives us a starting point to talk about animals and plants and why it is part of her job to help me with the recycling.

Some of the Magic School Bus stories are frenetic, by the way, but these collections seem to be less so. (i.e. they don't send my kids crawling up the wall.)

Enjoy. Educational and Fun.

My 6 year old daughter absolutely loves this collection. She can't stop watching them since we received them over a week ago. It is nice to have dvds that are educational as well as fun. I ordered the books to go with them, since she likes to read familiar stories.

I agree with the other reviewers that amazon should have listed the episodes expected on this dvd set. I had to wait to get the set before ordeing the dinosaur episode (which is my daughter's favorite), since i did not want a duplicate.

Yes, the collection is of episodes seen on TV. However, as far as the reviewer who claims we are lazy for not just taping the episodes--here in NY there ARE commercials on the channels that carry this show for us. Also, since many parents work, we can't be checking schedules every day and setting VCRs; also, when my daughter adores a show this much--it is much more enjoyable for her to find a dvd with a cover and locate the episodes she wants to watch herself, instaed of having a bunch of them on a homemeade video(this was fine when she was 3 and would watch episodes at random or over and over again). It gives her the independence of choosing her own shows by herself. Also, the dvd provides EXTRAS to use on you computer or dvd player.

Buy the set--it is wonderful.

Thank you Judy Storrer of Bryn Mawr, PA. I agree with the other people who have sent a review--my six year old and I love the Magic School Bus, but think it is disgraceful that a shopper has to do the work for Amazon. This is not the Amazon I am used to. I will be buying the 9 episode collection, but perhaps not from Amazon, just to send a message to the powers that be to get on the ball and do their job correctly. If Amazon wants my money, they had better start doing things right--such as listing the episodes on a DVD collection. Surely that can't be that hard? They can give me technical information that I don't need or care about, but the important things--such as the number of episodes on the collection and the titles of those episodes, well I guess that's just too much work for someone at Amazon to do! Thank you once again Mrs. Storrer for doing someone else's job!
